The palladium‐catalyzed CH activation and arylation of N‐methylpyrrole and N‐phenylpyrrole allowed a convenient synthesis of diarylpyrroles. The reactions were performed by using tetrabutylammonium acetate as an ionic solvent, which allowed for the application of a ligand‐free catalytic system by using simple palladium salts or polyvinylpyrrolidone‐stabilized palladium nanoparticles as the catalyst.

An efficient method for the asymmetric synthesis of a-amino acids, containing furyl- and thiophenyl-substituted triazoles in their side-chain, is reported. The strategy relies on Michael addition of 3,4,5-substituted 1,2,4-triazoles to the C=C bond of chiral NiII complexes containing the Schiff base formed from dehydroamino acids (dehydroalanine and (E + Z)-dehydroaminobutyric acid) and from chiral auxiliaries, i. e. (S)-2-N-(N0-benzylprolyl)aminobenzophenone and (S)-2-N- (N0-2-chlorobenzylprolyl) aminobenzophenone. The reactions proceeded with good to very good diastereoselectivity. Hydrolysis of the diastereomeric mixtures of metal complexes afforded the enantiomerically pure a-amino acids with high enantiomeric excess (ee> 98%). Alkylation of 4,5-disubstituted 4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols with methyl chloroformate and ethyl chloroacetate chemoselectively afforded the corresponding S-alkyl derivatives, whereas the alkylation of 5-benzyl-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol with methyl 3-bromopropanoate gave an inseparable mixture of S- and N-alkylation products. Hydrazinolysis of S-(5-benzyl-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) methyl carbonothioate involved anomalous cleavage with formation of the initial 4,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazole and methyl hydrazinecarboxylate.

Abstract An easy approach for the synthesis of various 5-substituted-3-(prop-2-ynyl)dihydrofuran-2(3H)-ones is described. As a method of choice, Mannich aminomethylation of terminal alkynes is adopted. The reaction works well with acyclic and cyclic secondary amines and provides the desired products, with good to very good yields.

Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of 5-methyl- and 5,5-dimethyl-3-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)oxolan-2-ones with dihaloarenes (dihaloheteroarenes) gave mixtures of the corresponding mono- and bis-coupling products. The latter can be obtained as the major products by variation of the catalytic system.

Alkylation of 3-acetyl-5-(alkoxymethyl)tetrahydrofuran-2-ones gave 3-acetyl-5-(alkoxymethyl)-tetrahydrofuran-2-ones containing various substituents in position 3 of the heterocycle. Bromination of the latter afforded 3-(bromoacetyl) derivatives which reacted with various nucleophiles to produce derivatives containing benzimidazole, 2-amino-1,3-thiazole, 3-chloropyridine, and 3,5-dibromopyridine fragments together with the butanolide ring.
