Darcy-Forchheimer flow with variable thermal conductivity and Cattaneo-Christov heat flux

Tasawar Hayat; Taseer Muhammad; Saleh Al-Mezal; Shijun Liao

Purpose The objectives of present communication are threefolds. First is to model and analyze the two-dimensional Darcy-Forchheimer flow of Maxwell fluid induced by a stretching surface. Temperature-dependent thermal conductivity is taken into account. Second is to examine the heat transfer process through non-classical flux by Cattaneo-Christov theory. Third is to derive convergent homotopic solutions for velocity and temperature distributions. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The resulting non-linear system is solved through the homotopy analysis method. Findings An increment in Deborah number β causes a reduction in velocity field f′(η) while opposite behavior is observed for temperature field θ(η). Velocity field f′(η) and thickness of momentum boundary layer are decreased when the authors enhance the values of porosity parameter λ while opposite behavior is noticed for temperature profile θ(η). Temperature field θ(η) is inversely proportional to the thermal relaxation parameter γ. The numerical values of temperature gradient at the sheet − θ′(0) are higher for larger values of thermal relaxation parameter γ. Originality/value To the best of author’s knowledge, no such consideration has been given in the literature yet.

Influence of Magnetic Field in Three-Dimensional Flow of Couple Stress Nanofluid over a Nonlinearly Stretching Surface with Convective Condition

Tasawar Hayat; Arsalan Aziz; Taseer Muhammad; Bashir Ahmad

This article investigates the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) three-dimensional flow of couple stress nanofluid subject to the convective boundary condition. Flow is generated due to a nonlinear stretching of the surface in two lateral directions. Temperature and nanoparticles concentration distributions are studied through the Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. Couple stress fluid is considered electrically conducting through a non-uniform applied magnetic field. Mathematical formulation is developed via boundary layer approach. Nonlinear ordinary differential systems are constructed by employing suitable transformations. The resulting systems have been solved for the convergent series solutions of velocities, temperature and nanoparticles concentration profiles. Graphs are sketched to see the effects of different interesting flow parameters on the temperature and nanoparticles concentration distributions. Numerical values are computed to analyze the values of skin-friction coefficients and Nusselt number.

Similarity solution to three dimensional boundary layer flow of second grade nanofluid past a stretching surface with thermal radiation and heat source/sink

Tasawar Hayat; Taseer Muhammad; S. A. Shehzad; Ahmed Alsaedi

Development of human society greatly depends upon solar energy. Heat, electricity and water from nature can be obtained through solar power. Sustainable energy generation at present is a critical issue in human society development. Solar energy is regarded one of the best sources of renewable energy. Hence the purpose of present study is to construct a model for radiative effects in three-dimensional of nanofluid. Flow of second grade fluid by an exponentially stretching surface is considered. Thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects are taken into account in presence of heat source/sink and chemical reaction. Results are derived for the dimensionless velocities, temperature and concentration. Graphs are plotted to examine the impacts of physical parameters on the temperature and concentration. Numerical computations are presented to examine the values of skin-friction coefficients, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers. It is observed that the values of skin-friction coefficients are more for larger values of second grade parameter. Moreover the radiative effects on the temperature and concentration are quite reverse.

Soret and Dufour effects in three-dimensional flow over an exponentially stretching surface with porous medium, chemical reaction and heat source/sink

Tasawar Hayat; Taseer Muhammad; S. A. Shehzad; Ahmed Alsaedi

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to study the Soret and Dufour effects in three-dimensional flow induced by an exponential stretching surface in a porous medium. Design/methodology/approach – Series solutions are developed. Findings – The authors observed that the temperature profile and thermal boundary layer thickness are enhanced when the authors increase the values of Dufour number. It is also examined that the concentration field and its associated boundary layer thickness are higher for the larger values of Soret number. Originality/value – Such investigation is not available in the literature.

A Comparative Study for Flow of Viscoelastic Fluids with Cattaneo-Christov Heat Flux

Tasawar Hayat; Taseer Muhammad; Ahmed Alsaedi; M. Mustafa

This article examines the impact of Cattaneo-Christov heat flux in flows of viscoelastic fluids. Flow is generated by a linear stretching sheet. Influence of thermal relaxation time in the considered heat flux is seen. Mathematical formulation is presented for the boundary layer approach. Suitable transformations lead to a nonlinear differential system. Convergent series solutions of velocity and temperature are achieved. Impacts of various influential parameters on the velocity and temperature are sketched and discussed. Numerical computations are also performed for the skin friction coefficient and heat transfer rate. Our findings reveal that the temperature profile has an inverse relationship with the thermal relaxation parameter and the Prandtl number. Further the temperature profile and thermal boundary layer thickness are lower for Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model in comparison to the classical Fourier’s law of heat conduction.

Tasawar Hayat; Ikram Ullah; Taseer Muhammad; Ahmed Alsaedi; S. A. Shehzad

This article investigates the three-dimensional flow of Powell–Eyring nanofluid with thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects. The energy equation is considered in the presence of thermal radiation. The heat and mass flux conditions are taken into account. Mathematical formulation is carried out through the boundary layer approach. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into the nonlinear ordinary differential equations through suitable variables. The resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations have been solved for the series solutions. Effects of emerging physical parameters on the temperature and nanoparticles concentration are plotted and discussed. Numerical values of local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are computed and examined.

Model and Comparative Study for Flow of Viscoelastic Nanofluids with Cattaneo-Christov Double Diffusion

Tasawar Hayat; Arsalan Aziz; Taseer Muhammad; Ahmed Alsaedi; Zhong-Ke Gao

Here two classes of viscoelastic fluids have been analyzed in the presence of Cattaneo-Christov double diffusion expressions of heat and mass transfer. A linearly stretched sheet has been used to create the flow. Thermal and concentration diffusions are characterized firstly by introducing Cattaneo-Christov fluxes. Novel features regarding Brownian motion and thermophoresis are retained. The conversion of nonlinear partial differential system to nonlinear ordinary differential system has been taken into place by using suitable transformations. The resulting nonlinear systems have been solved via convergent approach. Graphs have been sketched in order to investigate how the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are affected by distinct physical flow parameters. Numerical values of skin friction coefficient and heat and mass transfer rates at the wall are also computed and discussed. Our observations demonstrate that the temperature and concentration fields are decreasing functions of thermal and concentration relaxation parameters.

Tasawar Hayat; Taseer Muhammad; S. A. Shehzad; Ahmed Alsaedi

This research addresses the mixed convection flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid in a doubly stratified surface. Both temperature and concentration stratification effects are considered. Thermal radiation and chemical reaction effects are accounted. The governing nonlinear boundary layer equations are converted to coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations using appropriate transformations. Resulting nonlinear systems are solved for the convergent series solutions. Graphs are plotted to examine the impacts of physical parameters on the non-dimensional temperature and concentration distributions. The local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number are computed and analyzed numerically.

Tasawar Hayat; Farwa Haider; Taseer Muhammad; Ahmed Alsaedi; Xiao-Dong Wang

Here we are concerned with the Darcy-Forchheimer three-dimensional flow of carbon nanotubes in a rotating frame. Flow is generated by stretching of the surface. Xue model is adopted for nanofluid transport mechanism. Results for single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi wall carbon nanotubes are achieved and compared. Flow saturating porous space obeys Darcy-Forchheimer expression. Boundary layer approximations are invoked to simplify governing partial differential system. Optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM) is utilized for solutions of governing model. The optimal values of auxiliary parameters are computed. Plots have been displayed in order to analyze how the velocities and temperature fields get affected by various flow parameters. Skin-friction coefficients and local Nusselt number are presented through numerical data for both SWCNTs and MWCNTs. Moreover the skin-friction coefficients and local Nusselt number are enhanced for larger values of nanoparticles volume fraction.

Tasawar Hayat; Farwa Haider; Taseer Muhammad; Ahmed Alsaedi

Here Darcy-Forchheimer flow of viscoelastic fluids has been analyzed in the presence of Cattaneo-Christov heat flux and homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. Results for two viscoelastic fluids are obtained and compared. A linear stretching surface has been used to generate the flow. Flow in porous media is characterized by considering the Darcy-Forchheimer model. Modified version of Fouriers law through Cattaneo-Christov heat flux is employed. Equal diffusion coefficients are employed for both reactants and auto catalyst. Optimal homotopy scheme is employed for solutions development of nonlinear problems. Solutions expressions of velocity, temperature and concentration fields are provided. Skin friction coefficient and heat transfer rate are computed and analyzed. Here the temperature and thermal boundary layer thickness are lower for Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model in comparison to classical Fouriers law of heat conduction. Moreover, the homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions parameters have opposite behaviors for concentration field.
