Riscos nutricionais de escolares pertencentes a famílias de baixa renda do litoral catarinense

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo verificar los riesgos nutricionales de los escolares entre 5 y 12 anos de edad de las familias de clase baja pertenecientes a la red de ensenanza publica de la ciudad de Camboriu - SC. Fueron evaluados 819 escolares (579 ninos y 240 adolescentes). Los riesgos nutricionales fueron verificados mediante la clasificacion antropometrica y se constato que el 78% estaban eutroficos, 13% desnutridos y 9% con sobrepeso. La ingestion alimenticia indico un consumo excesivo de proteinas (48%) e insuficiente en azucares (96%), vegetales (80%), grasas (68%), cereales (68%) y frutas (48%). Los datos socio-economicos demonstraron que la clase predominante fue la D (43%), seguida de la C (30%), E (22%) y B (5%). Se encontro que un 46% de escolares presentavan anemia ferropriva. El estudio sugiere que por medio de la identificacion y el analisis de los factores nutricionales sera posible la construccion de estrategias de intervencion mas eficaces para la promocion de la salud, siendo la cuestion nutricional un elemento primordial.The objective of the present study was to assess nutritional risks of 5-12 year-old low family income students enrolled in public schools in the city of Camboriu - SC. Risk and protective factors for the development of chronic diseases in nurses

Background: Nurses are at risk of developing chronic diseases because of their long work hours and shift work. Objective: To identify the risk and protective factors for the development of chronic diseases in nurses based on their work shifts. Methodology: A questionnaire composed of sociodemographic questions and questions on risk and protective factors for the development of chronic noncommunicable diseases was applied to nurses working at a university hospital. Results: The sample was composed of 75 professionals, mostly women (87%), married/cohabiting (56%). The night shift nurses’ body mass index was significantly higher than that of day shift nurses (p = 0.045). With regard to the risk factors for chronic diseases, a significantly higher prevalence of smokers was found in the night shift (p = 0.034). Conclusion: The results can contribute to the development of strategies for improving the adherence to healthy habits and promoting better living and working conditions for nurses.

Analysis of essential drugs lists of a regional healthcare coordination center in Rio Grande do Sul

In Brazil municipalities are responsible for initiating the guarantee of access to essential medicines by selecting those that will be included in their lists. This study aimed to analyze how the Municipal Lists of Essential Medicines (MLEM) are prepared, as well as their comparison with the National List of Essential Medicines (RENAME) 2014, and what their similarities and differences are. The municipalities belong to the 11th Regional Healthcare Coordination Center of Rio Grande do Sul State. A questionnaire was applied to the Pharmaceutical Assistance managers to characterize the preparation of the lists that were compared between themselves and with RENAME 2014, later Cluster Analysis was used to determine similarities. A total of 23 municipalities and 22 lists were received for the analysis. The main criteria for elaboration were medical prescription, presence in RENAME and need of the population. RENAME was cited as the most widely used source of information. Ten drugs were present in all lists and the percentage of agreement with RENAME was 60.6%. These results point to the need for a balance between what is accomplished by the municipalities and what is recommended in selecting essential medications.

Prevalência de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis em idosos assistidos por equipe estratégia saúde da família no sul do Brasil.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of chronic non-transmissible diseases in elderly assisted by a Family Health Strategy in the south of Brazil. Methods: An exploratory and quantitative population-based cross sectional study was carried out. Glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol levels and blood pressure were used to measure the prevalence of chronic diseases and body mass index was used for nutritional status assessment. Descriptive and analytical statistics were used for assessing the variables. Results: Most of the elderly were female (62%) and mean age of the population was 71.1 years. Regarding blood pressure, 45% were hypertensive. With respect to biochemical tests, 25% had high cholesterol levels, 38% had high triglycerides and 27% had high blood glucose. Excess weight was more prevalent among females (57%) and eutrophy among males (44%). Conclusion: The elderly had significant prevalences of chronic non-transmissible diseases. Hypertension was the most frequently found disease and the prevalence of diabetes was higher than that of the Brazilian elderly population.

Time of speech-language therapy in a public service versus recommended parameters

PURPOSE: to verify the adequacy of speech-language therapy performed at a public facility in the city with regard to time duration and frequency and compare it with the speech-language therapy parameters proposed by the Federal Board of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. METHODS: transversal retrospective observational analysis of medical records of individuals from age 0 to 14 years treated by the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences department of a public facility from 2007 until 2012. RESULTS: among the findings, the following were outstanding: prevalence of male gender (66.9%), adolescents (47.0%), most common complaint was language (86.5%), referrals done by physician professionals (49.1%), followed by educators (22.7%) and speech-language therapist (20.4%). As regards the parameters time and duration, the girls presented a significantly higher percentage compared with boys; for the frequency parameter no differences were found. The time parameter presented the best results, however, far from attaining the recommended values; the non-conformity was higher for the audiology complaints, orofacial motor skills and voice. The worst results were for the frequency parameters, whereas the voice complaint presented an adequacy of 50%. CONCLUSIONS: It is believed that the data obtained may help to improve the organization of the service, prioritizing the parameters in decreasing order, frequency, duration and time, highlighting the importance of providing conditions to implement programs to optimize public health services that are in greater demand.
