A Mathematical Framework for Interpreting Playing Environments as Media for Information Flow

Tatsuo Motoyoshi; Takashi Hattori; Hiroshi Kawakami; Takayuki Shiose; Osamu Katai

This paper proposes a novel strategy of designing play equipments. nThe strategy introduces two loose constraints as a guideline for ndesigners. The first constraint is “describing unit of play action chain_ n ⟨ 𝑂 , 𝑆 , 𝑉 ⟩ based on Barthes_ semiology, and the second is the infomorphism nbetween designer, play equipment, and players based on channel ntheory. We provide detailed explanation of the strategy through an example nof a designing process of playing environment where the players nusage of the play equipment cannot be foreseen.

This paper proposes a mathematical framework that visualizes understanding process of rhetoric that is used for musical interpretation. This rhetoric play a role in loosely constrain-ting the implicit notion and leads a way for the interpretation. We firstly state the semantic structure of the rhetoric representations handling process. Based on it, we carry out an structure analysis of musical interpretations communication process. Furthermore, we propose a mathematical representation of generation process that represents performers internal representation, focusing on rhetorics semantic structure. Finally, we discussed about variations and hierarchy of rhetoric.
