The current study introduces updating of the educational process in higher educational institutions and raising the vocational qualification of engineers in companies. Modern networking e-environment requires broad-minded employees who have a perfect core education and who can understand the main principles of work in related disciplines. The objective of the study was the development of an integrated inter-disciplinary e-curriculum concentrated on mechatronics, supported by mobile laboratory sets that can save study time and resources. New concepts of integrated engineering areas and information technologies are introduced in this paper.

Significant efforts of the current manufacturing companies are devoted to the implementation of the full synchronization between the real world at the shop-floor level and its digital counterpart (so-called Digital Twin). Indeed, a true reflection of the real factory can be exploited to monitor and simulate the factory performance, allowing to adjust and optimize processes, anticipate failures and also investigate problems. One of the major challenge to be tackled in order to realize the Digital Twin is the handling of the factory telemetry, which can track the evolution of the objects in the real world. This paper investigates the potential of an application for supporting and handling the factory telemetry, thus allowing to create a snapshot of the real system that can dynamically augment and enhance the data-driven simulation applications supporting the manufacturing execution phase. As a proof of concept of the architecture, a prototype has been developed in the field of robotics. In such context, the proposed architecture is on the basis of a Virtual Reality tool to simulate human presence for development of safety systems in robotic cells.

The paper investigates in-process signal usage in turning for indirect surface roughness measurement. Based on theoretical surface roughness value and in-process signal, a model is proposed for surface roughness evaluation. Time surface roughness and in-process signal surface roughness correlation based analysis is performed to characterize tool wear component behavior among others. Influencing parameters are grouped based on their behavior in time. Moreover, Digital Object Memory based solution and algorithm is proposed to automate indirect surface roughness measurement process.

Abstract Operation effectiveness of production enterprises can be improved using open online resource databases for task sharing. One of the weakest links in production systems are staff members making wrong decisions due to insufficient competence and lack of data. The formal technique, namely model checking and related toolbox is proposed as an advisory tool to reduce the risk of loss in productivity caused by human errors. The paper describes a model checking based solution for database search that allows finding complete chains for updating competences and achieving positive synergies.
