The phenotypic characterization of wild boar population in Transylvania "Sus Scrofa Ferus"

Voichita Maria Gavrila; Crina Elena Strugariu; Teofil Oroian

The surveys were conducted over the years 2013-2014. The biological material was represented by 43 females and 63 males, adults, with the age of over 3 years, harvested from three hunting grounds in Transylvania. Conformation measurements were made for the following characteristics: body length, height at the withers, the croup height, thorax perimeter, body weight, head length, forehead width between the ears. There were estimated average and dispersion factors for each characteristics and phenotypic correlations were estimated between concerned characteristics. There is a large variability in all studied characteristics, in both males and females, variability given by individual differences and higher performance limits for each characteristics, given by both individual variability and environmental condition and harvesting season.

Non additive genetic component that is the base of a quantitative character has no predictability, this is the reason for which the present paper is proposing to appreciate the special combinatory capacity for total gain and average daily gain recorded the finishing period (30-80 days), in a specific crossing scheme combining three rabbit breeds common in Timis County breeders New Zealand White, Large Chinchilla and Californian. The data obtained, were statistically analyzed and demonstrates a good special combinative capacity for these characters, reason for which the crossing scheme is recommended for producing of meat individuals destined for slaughterhouses. This scheme provides an exploitation of the high fervency of the heterozygote at maternal forms and at the final hybrids.

The phenotypic performance of an enlarged selection nucleus of carp population from North-Western Transylvania is described in this paper. Aspects concerning the total body length, head length, maximal height, and body weight were recorded. The body length of the body is over 63 cm. The head length, important criteria in selection and index of slaughter yield recorded an average of 12.5 cm in both sexes. The index of body shape recorded an average of 3.33 by population, indicationg a long shape with linear back. The thorax perimeter recorded an average of 44.3 cm in males and 43.1 cm in female. The body weight recorded values of 4300 g in females and 4500 g in males.
