Akut romatizmal kardit tedavisinde kortikosteroid kullanımının kemik dansitesi üzerine etkisi

Purpose of the study: To examine the effects of moderate term corticosteroid use on bone density nbsp; Methods: 19 patient with acute rheumatic carditis between ages 3 1 5 years were studied before during and after prednisolone treatment for 21 weeks Dual energy X Ray absorbtiometry method was used to measure body fat ratio and bone mineral density BMD gr cm2 in head arms legs trunk ribs pelvis spine and in the total body Patient received prednisolone 2 mg kg for the first 3 weeks The dose was then tapered gradually for 6 weeks Results: Compared to initial values observed BMD differences in 3 weeks were insignificant in the total body as well as in all areas There was a slight but significant increase in BMD between 3 and 9 weeks which added up to a significant increase also between initial and the 9th week values The observed BMD differences in the spine was not significant Body fat ratio increased 4 7 in the first 3 weeks and 10 5 between 3 9 weeks There after there was a 11 5 decrease between 9 21 weeks nbsp; Conclusion: It was concluded that cortisone treatment for 9 weeks in rheumatic carditis does not effect BMD negatively Key words: Acute rheumatic fever bone density moderate term corticosteroid treatment drug effect

An eighteen days old infant with congenital lobar emphysema of left upper lobe diagnosed with chest x ray leading to dextrocardia is presented She disclosed a solitus visceroatrial situs and concordant atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial relationships in echocardiography Emphysema of left upper lobe was confirmed by computed tomography perfusion scintigraphy and it was surgically removed Pathological examination of resected left upper lobe revealed polialveolar lobe as the cause of congenital lobar emphysema Key words: Congenital Lobar Emphysema Polialveolar Lobe Cardiac Malpositions
