The Pentatomidae, representing the fourth largest family within Heteroptera, are one of the most diverse groups with about 800 genera and more than 4,700 species in the world. In the Neotropics, about 230 genera and 1,400 species are included in seven subfamilies of the world’s nine subfamilies; four subfamilies are exclusively of the Neotropics. In this chapter, for each subfamily, a diagnosis, an overview of the classification, and information on life history, ecology, and economic importance are given. Comprehensive keys and diagnosis to the subfamilies, tribes, and genera for the Neotropical Region, including Mexico, Central and South America, and the West Indies, are also given.

The Neotropical genus Braunus Distant is revised. Based on general morphology, Braunus is transferred to the Pentatominae and Lojus is proposed as a junior synonym of Braunus. The male and female genitalia of Braunus sciocorinus (Walker) are described for the first time. Three new species from the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes and from Colombia are described, Braunus machadoi Barão & Garbelotto sp. nov. (Holotype male deposited in AMNH: Peru, Cuzco, 01.XII.2011, C. Weirauch leg.), Braunus gibbus Garbelotto & Barão sp. nov. (Holotype female deposited in AMNH: Bolivia, Santa Cruz, Prov. Caballero, 15-21.X.2001, S. Spector & J. Ledezma leg.), and Braunus prionotus Barão & Garbelotto sp. nov. (Holotype female deposited in MNHN: Colombia, VII.1974, Steinheil leg.), respectively. Also, we describe the internal male and female genitalia of Braunus ocellatus (Thomas) comb. nov. A key to species and comments on subfamilial and tribal placements and on wing polymorphism are provided.

Xynocoris Garbelotto & Campos gen. nov. is proposed for a monophyletic group recovered in the previous cladistic analysis of the Herrichella clade. The genus is proposed based in two synapomorphies: the presence of long, projected, and acute anteocular processes, and apices of posterolateral angles of pygophore tumid. Nine new species are described (X. crinitus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. recavus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. tuberculatus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. insularis Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. egeri Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. calosus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. meridionalis Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov., X. lucidus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov. and X. cupreus Garbelotto & Campos sp. nov.) and one new combination is proposed for Alitocoris parvus (Distant).

Chinavia Orian has 79 nominal species, 32 of them occur in Brazil, and intraspecific chromatic or morphological variations are known for both immatures and adults of some species. Additions to the descriptions of Chinavia difficilis (Stål), Chinavia geniculata (Dallas), and Chinavia obstinata (Stål) are provided in here, and corrections are proposed for the pictorial key by Schwertner & Grazia for the Brazilian species of Chinavia. New distribution records are also given for the first two species.

A cladistic analysis of the Herrichela clade (Ochlerini) was conducted to solve problems concerning the systematics of the genus Alitocoris Sailer; this recovered monophyletic groups which are considered to be new genera. Stapecolis gen. nov. is here proposed for two species (S. latus sp. nov. and S. bimaculatus sp. nov.) representing one of those monophyletic groups. The new genus is supported by ten synapomorphies, five of them pertaining to the morphology of the pygophore have not been found together in any other genera of Ochlerini. The female genitalia also has characteristics different from closely related genera.
