The NEPTUNE Technology to Verify and to Document Software Components

Juan Carlos Cruellas; Jean-Paul Bodeveix; Thierry Millan; Agusti Canals

The main objective of the NEPTUNE project (Nice Environment with a Process and Tools Using Norms and Example) is to develop both a method and tools (complementary to the existing software environments) based on the use of the UML notation. This method, gained from considerable experience in the industrial environment, will apply to a variety of different fields: software development, business processes and knowledge management. The newly developed tools will enable static check of UML models for their coherence. They will also enable generation of professional documentation resulting from the transformation of models. This will be compliant with the context of the UML notation and will take into account user’s requirements. The method and tools developed in this way will facilitate the application of the UML standard as well as promoting its use in a large number of varied fields.

Implementing and validating SynchSPEM: A solution for synchronizing activities and products within a software engineering process

Activities and products are among the key concepts defining and participating to the life cycle of software engineering processes. These two concepts are bonded by strong relationships of production and consumption, which implies that their evolution should be monitored to ensure their consistency and coherence, this monitoring is referred to as synchronization between products and activities. In this paper, we present and validate a solution to the synchronization problem through a SPEM based metamodel: SynchSPEM. This metamodel describes software development processes, especially product and activity entities, and their relationships by managing synchronization between them. To ensure the execution of the produced models, a behavioral model has been defined for SynchSPEM. Thus, the metamodel will establish the structure of the process, while the behavioral model will define its dynamic aspect. The Kermeta metamodeling language has been used to implement the SynchSPEM solution, and a case study has been performed in order to validate this solution.

An Adaptation of our Ada95/O2 Binding to Provide Persistence to the Java Language: Sharing and Handling of Data between Heterogenous Applications using Persistence

Thierry Millan; Myriam Lamolle; Frédéric Mulatero

This paper sets out the results of our research relating to persistence in Ada and interoperability between applications written using heterogeneous languages. In this paper, we compare the different features of Ada, Java and O2. By making this comparison, we aim to propose a general framework in order to interconnect different applications using the persistence concept. In addition, we propose an example of the co-operation between Ada and Java using O2. We conclude our paper by comparing our approach with the different approaches proposed by other studies on the same subject.
