Der Verbrennungsspitzendruck und die thermische Bauteilbelastung werden kunftig weiter steigen. Neben Kurbelgehause und Triebwerk ist insbesondere der Zylinderkopf von dieser Entwicklung betroffen. Die Frage ist nun, wie es konstruktiv am besten gelingt, die erhohten Anforderungen an den Zylinderkopf zu erfullen. Dazu hat FEV Motoren-technik ein internes F&E-Projekt durchgefuhrt, in dem verschiedene Konzepte konstruiert und miteinander verglichen wurden.

Despite simulation methods and modelling techniques, a certain amount of hardware testing is and will always be an integral part of engine development. Single cylinder engines such as the different types available through FEV Motorentechnik that cover the entire displacement bandwidth from passenger cars to commercial vehicles and from locomotive to marine engines are a valuable tool for this purpose. Important combustion parameters can be investigated faster, more flexible and cost-effectively than with multi-cylinder engines.

Cylinder head concepts for high peak firing pressures

In future, peak combustion pressure and thermal loading of the components will further increase. In addition to the crank case and the crank train components, particularly the design of the cylinder head is affected by this development. In this connection, an important question is how a cylinder head should be designed to meet the higher demands. Therefore, FEV Motorentechnik performed an internal R & D project where various kinds of concepts have been designed and compared with each other.
