The increasingly tough design specifications for crankcase ventilation systems are the result of several trends in the automotive industry: above all, the increased use of supercharged engines and spark-ignition engines with direct injection; the general trend towards the extension of service intervals; and ever-stricter requirements regarding the emission of pollutants and the emission stability of vehicle engines. The first part of this article dealt with functional requirements, ventilation concepts and system components of current systems. This second part of a two-part series from Hengst GmbH & Co. KG will examine the specifications in greater detail, explain the characteristics and the potential of advanced system components and provide examples of system integration and modularisation.
