The Audi 2.5 TDI in the Audi 100 marked the start of development of today’s direct injection diesel engines. The injection system has been and continues to be one of the key technologies for successful further development. The first TDI engines with CP37 and CP44 distributor-type fuel injection pump, for example, had attached pilot injection.

The first part of this article [1] dealt with the design and mechanical features of the new Audi 3.0-I-V6-TDI-engine; in the second part, thermodynamic development, application and exhaust emission control are discussed. The new diesel engine has a power output of up to 171 kW at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 450 Nm between 1400 and 3250 rpm. It is to be installed initially in the Audi A8 and A6 together with the new 6-speed automatic transmission and the quattro driveline.

Im ersten Teil dieses Beitrags [1] wurden Konstruktion und Mechanik des neuen 3,0-l-V6-TDI Motors von Audi beschrieben. In diesem zweiten Teil geht es um die Entwicklung der Thermodynamik, Applikation und Abgasnachbehandlung. Der neue Dieselmotor hat eine Leistung von maximal 171 kW bei 4000/min und ein Drehmoment von 450 Nm zwischen 1400 bis 3250/min. Er wird zunachst im Audi A8 und A6 in Verbindung mit dem neuen Sechsgang-Automatikgetriebe mit quattro-Antrieb eingesetzt.
