SummaryA new species of Ardisia (Myrsinaceae) is described from the Malaysian state of Sabah in northern Borneo. Ardisia silamensis is a member of subgenus Pimelandra, and has been confused with the Peninsular Malaysian species A. solida, but differs in the indumentum type and distribution on the vegetative and especially on the floral parts, and the inflorescence bracts. The species is currently only known from ultramafic substrates on Mt Silam, and is assessed as Critically Endangered according to the IUCN criteria.

SummaryInitiating a revision of the Malaysian Myrsinaceae for the Flora of Peninsular Malaysia project, this paper revises Ardisia subgenus Bladhia from the region. Five taxa are recognised including a new species — Ardisia subverticillata Julius & Utteridge; a key, species descriptions, conservation assessments and distribution maps are provided. In addition, Ardisia tumida Furtado, previously treated within this subgenus, is excluded and transferred to subgenus Pimelandra.

SummaryThe genus Medusanthera (Stemonuraceae, Icacinaceae s.l.) is revised; eight species are recognised. Three new species are described and illustrated: Medusanthera megistocarpa Utteridge from New Guinea, M. howardii Utteridge from Fiji, and M. malayana Utteridge from Peninsular Malaysia. A key to the genus is given, and descriptions, conservation ratings, and distribution maps provided for each species; a list of exsiccatae is supplied.

SummaryStemonurus corrugatus Utteridge & Schori is described and illustrated as a new species from Sarawak, Malaysia. The new species is similar to S. grandifolius, S. scorpioides, and S. umbellatus, and morphological differences among the taxa are discussed. A distribution map and notes on the new species’ conservation status are provided.

SummaryThe genus Embelia in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore is revised as part of ongoing work contributing towards the Flora of Peninsular Malaysia account. Three new species are described: E. butangifolia, E. intricata and E. vinosiramosa, and a new combination is made: Embelia beccariana based on Grenacheria beccariana. A key to the 24 taxa (23 species and one subspecies) is presented, alongside distribution, habitat, phenology and a discussion of morphology of similar taxa; lectotypes are designated for names where necessary. The conservation status of each species is estimated using IUCN criteria.

SummarySix new species of Gomphandra (Stemonuraceae) are described from the Philippines. Gomphandra bracteata is restricted to southern Palawan, G. coi and G. psilandra are from Luzon, G. fernandoi is found in the eastern Visayan region, and G. dinagatensis and G. ultramafiterrestris occur on Dinagat Island. A new subspecies, Gomphandra luzoniensis subsp. septentrionalis, from the northern Philippines and Taiwan, is distinguished. Distribution maps and preliminary conservation statuses are provided for each taxon. A key to the Philippine species of Gomphandra is included.

SummaryA synoptic revision of the genus Smythea Seem. (Rhamnaceae) based on morphological evidence is presented. A total of 11 species are recognised; five new species are described: Smythea batanensis, S. beccarii, S. hirtella, S. poilanei and S. poomae, six new synonyms are established and a new combination is made: S. oblongifolia. Several new distribution records are reported, including S. macrocarpa for Borneo and Sumatra and S. oblongifolia for India. Generic delimitation between Smythea and the closely related genus Ventilago is clarified, and useful characters to identify the genera are discussed and illustrated. Distribution maps are given for each species, as well as a preliminary conservation assessment based on IUCN guidelines.
