Short Flaps???Their Use and Abuse in the Treatment of Male Pattern Baldness

Toby G. Mayer; Richard W. Fleming

The treatment of male pattern baldness by the use of ternporoparietal scalp flaps is a relatively new procedure. Our views regarding design, indications, and use of this flap are discussed, stressing our differences with previous authors. The flap is contrasted to other surgical procedures for treatment of baldness. While it is an excellent procedure when indicated, it can be abused. Clinical examples of ideal patients for this and other procedures are presented.
