Grid of Learning Resources in E-learning Communities

Julio R. Ribon; Luis Javier García Villalba; Tomás Pedro de Miguel Moro; Tai-hoon Kim

Virtual Learning Communities allow organizations to be more cooperative during training activities via the Internet, with the provision of their learning resource. However, today, such techniques are not being implemented optimally and efficiently. In this paper we present a description of the problems that would face the generation of the grid of learning resources. Currently little is known about the problems that prevent the formation of virtual learning communities, so, this work is important for community members (directors, teachers, researchers and practitioners) because it offers a conceptual framework that helps understand these scenarios and can provide useful design requirements when generating learning services (Grid of Learning Resources). We also propose an experience in which virtual learning communities have been integrated in Cartagena (Colombia) obtaining an alternative solution to the current problems.

Generating VHDL Code from LOTOS Descriptions

Andrés Marín López; Carlos Delgado Kloos; Tomás Robles Valladares; Tomás Pedro de Miguel Moro

The aim of this chapter is to describe an automatic technique for obtaining synthesizable VHDL code from a T-LOTOS specification. Although the technique is automated, some guidance from the user is always welcome when a better code is required. There are in principle two ways to perform the translation: translation of the T-LOTOS operators into VHDL code or substitution of T-LOTOS processes by corresponding VHDL blocks from a pre-defined T-LOTOS & VHDL library. Both procedures can could be also combined together. In the present chapter only the first approach is developed.

Solving technological isolation to build virtual learning communities

Julio R. Ribon; Luis Javier García Villalba; Tomás Pedro de Miguel Moro; Tai-Hoon Kim

Educational institutions may form virtual learning communities by cooperating with others to develop online academic activities. In the cloud, communities make up a grid of expertise, which is built with the learning resources that each organization shares with other pairs. Currently little is known about the problems that prevent the formation of the grid of Expertise in Virtual Learning Communities. Such techniques are not being implemented optimally and efficiently. In this paper we present a description of these problems. This work is important for community members (directors, teachers, researchers and practitioners) because it offers a conceptual framework that helps understand these scenarios and can provide useful design requirements when generating learning services for the community. We also propose an experience implemented at the University of Cartagena (Colombia) in which virtual learning communities have been integrated obtaining an alternative solution to the current problems. We believe that the result of this experience could solve the technological isolation to build communities efficiently and optimally.

IPv6 Deployment, Not Only a Network Problem

Omar Walid Llorente; Tomás Pedro de Miguel Moro; David Fernández Cambronero

The new IPv6 and the current IPv4 will coexist for many years. A wide range of techniques have been designed to make the coexistence possible and to provide an easy network transition. An organization involved in the IPv6 transition should address not only network issues but also final user applications. The management of the different services must also be revised. This is specially relevant in academic institutions where educational, production and research networks live together in the same environment. This document is intended to give the reader a more comprehensive and accurate picture about the IPv6 transition procedures that may be accomplished by the different University members to introduce IPv6 smoothly and successfully.
