Taking a birds-eye-view of the philosophical discourses that metaphorize creativity as “expression,” “production,” and “reconstruction,” this article depicts their vital characteristics and distinct ways of portraying the relationships between creativity, educative experiences, and the epistemic cultures now occurring within and beyond the workplace. Illustrative examples are taken from an ongoing comparative and longitudinal study that explores the epistemic trajectories of Norwegian nurses, teachers, auditors, and computer engineers. The aim is to provide a better understanding of the contours of creativity in relation to productive workplace learning. This article reveals how different ways of metaphorizing creativity carries distinct images, theoretical representations, and models of thought that provide openings and limitations for our ways of thinking about education and contemporary workplace learning.

In this chapter I perform a critical reading of the French philosopher Alain Badiou’s hypertranslation of Plato’s Republic in order to outline Badiou’s approach to political education. Despite claiming that ‘the only education is an education by truths’, Badiou never explicitly discusses his notion of education. However, Badiou’s way of turning to Plato seems to reveal an ambition to reestablish the importance of the link between truth and political education. Badiou’s hypertranslation of the Republic cannot unilaterally be read as an actualization of Plato’s classic text. It should also be read as a renewal and strengthening of the truths that originated with Plato and still characterises the Western world’s master discourse on education. It is also a comment to this discourse’s blind spots. We – the readers – are thus invited to participate in the movable thinking that originated with Plato and which is here represented and reconceived by Badiou.

Professional expertise is a relational and constantly shifting entity, generated, justified, shaped and reshaped according to the altering dynamics of social institutions, changing societies, and symbolic economies. But in what ways does professional expertise now undergo transformations? And how should we read the alterations? In this chapter, we explore three ways of reading these dynamics. Our ambition is to provide a better understanding of the dynamics of professional expertise in relation to changing societies and altering symbolic economies.
