Shiori Oshimi; Kazumasa Zaima; Yosuke Matsuno; Yusuke Hirasawa; Toru Iizuka; Herra Studiawan; Gunawan Indrayanto; Noor Cholies Zaini; Hiroshi Morita

From the fruits of Phaleria macrocarpa, icariside C3 (1), phalerin (2), and mangiferin (3) were isolated and their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data. Icariside C3 (1) showed a slow vasorelaxant activity against noradrenaline-induced contraction of isolated rat aorta. The structure of phalerin (2) was revised as 2,4′,6-trihydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone-2-O-β-d-glucoside.

HPLC quantification of kaempferol-3-O-gentiobioside in Cassia alata.

Hiroyoshi Moriyama; Toru Iizuka; Masahiro Nagai; Yoshimi Murata

Kaempferol-3-O-gentiobioside, the major flavonoid glycoside in Indonesian Cassia alata was quantified in various parts of the plant. The mature leaf was found to contain the highest content of this metabolite. A decrease of the flavonoid content in the juvenile leaf during the period of October through December was also observed. The contents ranged from 2.0 to 5.0% and 1.0 to 4.0% in mature and juvenile leaves, respectively. The other parts studied were flower (sepal and petal), rachis, stem and seed. Kaempferol-3-O-gentiobioside was not detected in the seed.

Vasorelaxant effects of diarylheptanoids, acerogenin A and (−)-centrolobol from the bark of Acer nikoense : Vasorelaxant effects of Acer nikoense

Toru Iizuka; Seiji Nagumo; Hideomi Yotsumoto; Susumu Terabayashi; Toshio Fukai; Masahiro Nagai

The bark of Acer nikoense (Aceraceae) is used in Japanese folk medicine as a remedy for hepatic disorders and eye diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the vasorelaxant effects of A. nikoense extracts and further clarify the active constituents and mechanisms of action.
