How filler distribution affects paper properties. 3 The influence of different fillers on optical and mechanical properties of paper.

The relationship between filler distribution in cross section and paper properties was investigated for different filler loaded papers. The results are summarized as follows.(1) The change in sheet density with increasing filler content differs with typ(2) A good correlation between light scattering coefficient of paper and [2r/(1-r)] np was obtained, regardless of filler type. Since [2r/(1-r)] np was derived from refractive index and from the particle size of dispersed filler aggregates in water, this result shows that these two parameters have strong influence on optical properties of paper.(3) Internal bond strength of paper tends to decrease, as the z-directional width of filler aggregates increases. This tendency is consistent with that of sheet density.
