Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is getting noticed as an emerging network technology. Due to its attractive features such as accessing content by its name, in-network caching, etc., it is expected to apply to Internet of Things (IoT). IoT applications typically collect a large amount of data widely distributed in various locations. In conventional ICN, it is not easy to access such data because each name for desired data needs to be specified beforehand and the number of requests for data becomes so large. In this paper, we propose a network architecture for IoT applications by an extension of ICN, namely Keyword-Based Content Retrieval (KBCR). When KBCR node receives a request with some keywords, it spreads multiple requests towards the data related to the keywords. When the node receives the multiple responses, it merges them into one response. This process is carried out on multiple nodes in tandem manner over the network. Hence, the requester can receive the aggregated data in one response and the number of request/response messages is reduced. This paper describes the concept of KBCR, a typical IoT application example, the detail of KBCR behavior for the application example, and finally shows the advantage of the proposal by numerical analysis.

Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is receiving attention as an emerging network technology. Due to its attractive features, such as accessing content by its name, in-network caching, etc., ICN is expected to apply essentially to the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT applications typically collect a large amount of data widely distributed in various locations. For such usage, we proposed the architecture of Keyword-Based Content Retrieval (KBCR) in a previous paper, as an extension of ICN. In KBCR, a requester sends one request with some keywords, and can receive related content in one response. In this paper, we describe the implementation and performance evaluation of KBCR, and show the feasibility and efficiency of it. For implementation, we implemented KBCR protocol in our testbed system to confirm its functions and developed a demonstration application to show its effectiveness. For performance evaluation, we compared KBCR and NDN by queueing analysis using measured data on the prototype, and showed that KBCR provides better performance both in a requester load and the network delay/throughput.

This paper describes a new network architecture for personal communication services that provides transparent connectivity to different physical networks. We call this system DUET (Distributed User-agent for Easy Telecommuication). In this system both user information and customized service logic are managed independently by a distributed personal agent (PA) that is identified by the personal ID. The location information of users and terminals is managed by distributed area agents (AAs). Each PA interacts with other PAs and AAs to support flexible person-to-person communications in a heterogeneous network environment including mobile terminals.
