Influence of Adrenalectomy on the Development of the Neonatal Thymus in the Rat

Tomoo Inomata; Tsunenori Nakamura

Adrenalectomy of 1-, 6-, 11- and 16-day-old male and female rats did not cause any changes in the weight of thymus 5 days later. Adrenalectomy on days 21, 26, 31 and 81 of age induced a significant hypertrophy of the thymus 5 days later. These results indicate that after about the time of weaning, the thymus is under some inhibitory regulation by the adrenal gland.

Somatostatin and GABA correlate with cervical autonomic nerve activity

Teiichiro Tonoue; Hideaki Hata; Tadayuki Ohnishi; Noboru Kido; Tsunenori Nakamura

The mode of inhibitory action of centrally administered SRIF on the efferent activity of autonomic nerves was investigated in the rat by assessing the SRIF-induced change in the activity of the superior laryngeal nerve with or without pretreatment with various drugs. After picrotoxin or bicuculline treatment, the inhibition of nerve activity by SRIF was abolished while reserpine and atropine failed to abolish the SRIF effect. The centrally administered GABA inhibited the activity of the superior laryngeal nerve and the cervical sympathetic trunk. However, SRIF did not affect the sympathetic trunk. Arterial blood pressure was increased by SRIF while GABA produced hypotension. These data provide evidence for a GABAergic system as the mediator of SRIF action in the brain and for the selectivity of SRIF action on the particular intermediary GABAergic neurones.

Vascular Architecture of the Canine Prepuce

Hiroyoshi Ninomiya; Tsunenori Nakamura

The blood supply of the canine prepuce is described as studied with gross dissection and acrylic resin injection casts. The conclusions of this study are based on gross dissection of 10 animals and 12 injection cast preparations. The arterial supply and the venous drainage is described in some detail and compared with similar descriptions by other investigations utilizing similar and varied techniques.

The Capillary Circulation in the Penile Skin of the Dog

Hiroyoshi Ninomiya; Tsunenori Nakamura

The microcirculation of the penile skin of the dog is described. This study is based on the examination of the penile skin vasculature of 14 adult dogs in which injection cast preparations of the capillary systems had been made. The capillary organization was examined with the aid of a scanning electron microscope. The organization of the capillary system and associated microregulatory vessels are presented as a model for further investigation of micro‐circulatory anatomy and physiology.

Testicular Vascular Organization in Naturally Occurring Unilateral Cryptorchidism of an Adult Male Pig

Hiroyoshi Ninomiya; Tsunenori Nakamura
