Combining fuzzy set theory, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and concept of entropy, a fuzzy Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) model for shipping company performance evaluation is proposed. First, the AHP is used to construct subjective weights for all criteria and sub-criteria. Then, linguistic values characterized by triangular fuzzy numbers and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are used to denote the evaluation values of all alternatives with respect to various subjective and objective criteria. Finally, the aggregation fuzzy assessment of different shipping companies is ranked to determine the best selection. Utilizing this fuzzy MCDM model, the decision-makers fuzzy assessment and the trade-off between various evaluations criteria can be taken into account in the aggregation process, thus ensuring more effective and accurate decision-making.

Abstract In this paper, a Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (FQFD) to identify service management requirements for an ocean freight forwarder is developed. First, customer needs, with importance and satisfaction degrees, have been investigated, followed by the development of service management requirements for satisfying the observed customer needs. Furthermore, a fuzzy relation matrix to link service management requirements and customer needs based on cross-functional expertise is also constructed. The aggregated fuzzy assessments of various service management requirements are ranked to determine their importance priority. Finally, an empirical study for identifying the service management requirements of the ocean freight forwarder company is used to demonstrate the proposed approach.

Combining the concepts of balanced scorecard, fuzzy set theory and entropy, a systematic fuzzy multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) for airlines operating performance evaluation is proposed. A hierarchical structure is constructed through the concept of balance scorecard includes four perspectives: finance, customers, internal business processes, and learning and growth. The triangular fuzzy numbers are used to denote the weights of all criteria and the evaluation values of all alternative airlines versus subjective and objective criteria. For effectively measuring the average essence of information quantity, the entropy weighting method is utilized to modify the weights of subjective criteria. Thus, the explanation ability and reliability of criteria can be effectively conveyed.

The safety of container terminal loading and unloading operations is an important link in international port logistics, and such operations deeply affect terminal operating efficiency and service quality. Finding solutions for improving the safety and quality of loading and unloading operations has therefore become very important. In this article, a fuzzy grey quality function deployment approach was developed to identify solutions for improving the safety of container terminal loading and unloading operations in Taiwan. First, the fuzzy grey quality function deployment approach was presented. Second, this study employed a house of quality to facilitate investigation of the 18 safety needs’ attributes and 10 feasible technical solutions. Safety needs, and their importance and satisfaction, were then examined via an expert questionnaire. Subsequently, a fuzzy relationship matrix was constructed to link technical solutions and safety needs in a fuzzy decision environment. Finally, the fuzzy grey quality function deployment approach was applied to prioritize technical solutions regarding improving the safety quality of container terminal loading and unloading operations in Taiwan. This study’s results show that the top six most feasible technical solutions for improving the safety quality of loading and unloading operations are “implementing professional education and training,”“enhancing safety awareness and behavior of personnel,”“developing effective standard operating procedures,”“adequate safety equipment,”“establishing a good safety climate,” and “regular maintenance of hardware and equipment.” These top six technical solutions are also discussed in this article.

L, in central Taiwan. Return on investment (ROI) is used as the measure of profitability. Five predictor variables are adopted to establish the discriminant function. Five classification types (i.e., 2-group, 3-group, 4-group, 5-group and 6-group) are included in the experiments. The results show that the proposed discriminant function is a robust one with respect to the rankings obtained under different classification types; moreover, the 4-group type is suitable to classify the ROI and it acquires a satisfactory apparent rate. Hence, the 4-group type is suggested in practice work. The study shows the proposed IDEA–DA is an effective tool for company
