本研究は高温高圧のもとで,メタノールと一酸化炭素(純度99%以上)を反応させて酢酸を合成し,その収率を上げることを目的とする。酢酸コバルトおよびヨウ化カリウムを触媒として用い,これをメタノール水溶液に溶かして,Ti-Mn合金オートクレーブに充填してバッチ式の合成実験を行なった結果,つぎのようなことが明らかになった。反応圧力300kg/cm2以上,反応温度200~260℃,水の添加量30~70mol%のメタノール溶液,酢酸コバルトおよびヨウ化カリウムの添加量それぞれ0.050~0.150,0.50~1.50mol%,反応時間3時間の条件のもとで,50~80%の転化率で酢酸を合成することができ,生成液の酢酸量は40~60wt%であった。また,酢酸コバルトの濃度を0.150mol%以上にすると水性ガス反応が激しくなり,それによって生成される水素が副反応を起す原因になることがわかった。本合成法の特質は多量のヨウ化カリウムと水を必要とし,反応が液相内で進行することである。
