Object-oriented modeling for advanced power system simulations

The use of advanced simulation by power system engineers is increasing rapidly because of the need of developing new powerful technologies to make high performance simulation easier, to implement and also to make possible new studies of power system modeling. An environment that has modeling flexibility to allow modification or addition of new power system models is needed so that power system engineers can quickly get started in testing of new research ideas. In this paper, we present a new Modelica library used with MidFielder program for power system simulations and a new function in MidFielder for power system data conversion to use in Modelicas environment. Two examples which are for modeling of static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) and superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) are used to demonstrate the capability of this new function.

Enhancement of Data Handling in Integrated Power System Analysis Package, Named Impact, Using Information Technologies

Abstract This paper describes a new method to enhance data handling and reduce effort in power system analysis. The power system is very large and incorporates many pieces of equipment. To reduce effort in power system analysis, it is necessary to increase data handling efficiency. However, conventional power system analysis applications incur a complicated data format requiring experienced operators and/or planners. On the other hand, many useful data-handling methods are provided by information technology (IT). In this paper, a graphical user interface and database function are applied to data handling and are installed in an integrated power system analysis package, named IMPACT.
