The built environments, including urban spaces should be suitable to the needs of the elderly in order to avoid the risk of falls. The identification of environmental risk factors 1 Trabalho apresentado no IV SBQP 2015. Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Disponível em: http://dx.doi.org/10.18540/2176-4549.6045 that generate falls is remarkable in the sense of establishing strategies for their prevention. This work is part of masters research in progress and seeks to analyze the relationship between the physical barriers of the urban space adjacent to the Basic Health Units (Unidades Básicas de Saúde UBSs) and aging functional changes in relation to falls in the elderly. At this stage, it was employed the following methods: literature review to enable the state of the art, documental research in the records of the UBS responsible agencies in a medium-sized city, where data were collected in order to characterize them within their coverage area, and exploratory interviews. As a result of the research, the UBS were stratified as to own or rented head office, being selected the UBS which has its own space. From those, the number of people registered was highlighted and the total number of elderly and the percentage of older people relative to the population were registered. These results will contribute to the second part of the research that will characterize the urban space adjacent to the studied UBS related to the physical barriers; to identify the functional alterations caused by the aging process and to correlate them with the use of space; to check how the elderly perceive and behave in urban areas adjacent to UBS and to describe elderly mobility in urban areas adjacent to UBS. Research on the risk factors for elderly falls in extradomiciliar environment is justified since several studies have been conducted with institutionalized elderly or in the domestic environment and few have focused their relationship with the urban space.

Sustainability should not be understood only as a matter of environmental protection, but should encompass other aspects, consolidating a holistic view. Thus, it is understood that the concepts of sustainable building and construction must be broad enough to encompass the various dimensions of sustainability. The population growth of Brazilian cities consequently brought a number of problems that confront society. Among others, is the lack of accessibility that presents itself through the unsuitability of many of the public spaces of access to urban facilities and services. The poor accessibility conditions can significantly compromising the sustainability of the city. The purpose of this article is to identify the concepts of sustainable buildings and construction and its applicability in public buildings, focusing on accessibility. It is a qualitative research using literature review for research and discussion of the concepts which are the focus of the study: sustainable construction and sustainable building. It is complemented with the analysis of a case study of a building that has the application of these concepts identifying accessibility factors and sustainability dimensions in the study. With the study it was identified that accessibility is part of the sustainability of buildings as it addresses several dimensions of sustainability discussed by some authors. As sustainability in buildings is not only related to the protection of natural resources, but also with the impact of buildings on users, it is essential that they are designed committed to inclusion and accessibility, eliminating architectural barriers and avoiding exclusion conditions in

Revising the teaching of technical drawing: New technologies creating new paradigms

Túlio Márcio de Salles Tibúrcio; Lucia Patricia Monnerat

New information and communication technology introduces new educational paradigms in the teaching and learning process. New computer software are leading to a transition from paper to electronic media in the technical drawing field. This research focuses on a technical drawing course where computer software are being used more effectively in order to transforming it into a distance learning course. The methodology includes a diagnosis of the course, a review of the material used in the course and an assessment by students to obtain their insights and satisfaction. The course was redesigned and tested for structuring a new method for teaching the technical drawing course. Results show the dissatisfaction of most students with the methods using the tracing paper. In the electronics module, there was great motivation of the students. The analysis of the changes made in the course enabled to correct paths and set guidelines for the implementation of the distance learning module.
