The reactions of the aminoborylphosphanes, ( i Pr 2 N) 2 BP(H)SiPh 3 ( 1 ), [( i Pr 2 N) 2 BP(H)] 2 SiMe 2 ( 2 ), and [( i Pr 2 N) 2 BP(H)Si(Me) 2 ] 2 ( 3 ) with M(CO) 5 ·NMe 3 or M(CO) 4 (norbornadiene) (M=Cr, Mo, W) gave solid, crystalline adducts, three of which have been fully characterized. The molecular structures of ( i Pr 2 N) 2 BP(H)SiPh 3 ·Cr(CO) 5 ( 4 ) and [( i Pr 2 N) 2 BP(H)] 2 SiMe 2 ·W(CO) 4 ( 5′ ) have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Ligand 1 acts as a monodentate σ donor ligand while 2 coordinates as a chelating phosphane.

The reaction of LiP(H)B(N i Pr 2 )[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ]·DME with Cp 2 ZrCl 2 in a 2:1 ratio yields the metallodiphosphane Cp 2 Zr{P(H)B(N i Pr 2 )[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ]} 2 ( 3a ). Combination of 3a with Mo(CO) 4 (norbornadiene) provides the adduct Cp 2 Zr{P(H)B(N i Pr 2 )[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ]} 2 ·Mo(CO) 4 ( 4a ) in which the metallo-diphosphane 3a acts as a chelating ligand. The compounds have been characterized by spectroscopic methods and the molecular structures of 3a and 4a have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The chemical and structural features are compared and contrasted with related metallo-diphosphanes that contain organic substituents on the diphosphane P atoms.

Abstract A systematic synthetic route for the construction of two spirocyclic P4B4Si cage compounds is described, and spectroscopic data for the new compounds are presented. In addition, the molecular structures have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and these data are compared with structural parameters for related bicyclic cage compounds.

Continuing Studies of Cage Compounds Containing Boron and Phosphorus Atoms have Led to the Discovery of New Five-Atom Cages Containing not Only B and P Atoms, but also Group 14 Elements Si, Ge and Sn, as well as Transition Metal Atoms Ni, Pd and Pt. The Syntheses of These Interesting Compounds are Summarized.

Abstract The reactions of 1-(lithio·DME) salts of two 1,3,2,4-diphosphadiboretanes with R2ECl2 reagents have been examined. Under most conditions, this chemistry provides precursors to novel cage compounds P2(BNR′2)2ER2, although in some cases soluble oligomers are formed when the intermediate species undergo dehydrohalogenation.
