Telecentric Imaging with Line Scan Cameras

Peter Gips; Gregor Federau; Ulrich Oechsner

Line scan cameras are semiconductor cameras used in many industrial environments. Most have just one photosensitive linear array, but some have single arrays with sensitivity for different colors (for example: RGB line scan camera with three arrays). A line scan camera can be used for one-dimensional measurements, such as determining the width of a gap, or for producing a two-dimensional image by moving either the camera or the object, like a photocopier or a fax machine. The main advantages of a line camera include high optical resolution and speed, the ability to synchronize each line and the freedom to produce an image of almost unrestricted length.

Analyzing Filiform Corrosion: Standardized inspection using a large area scan macroscope

Peter Gips; Torben Becker; Ulrich Oechsner; Gregor Federau

Filiform corrosion is a form of corrosion that particularly affects aluminum coated or painted with anti-corrosive surface protection layers. Exposure to water and oxygen as well as certain salts enhance the production of corrosion foci that infiltrate the space between the metal and its coating, especially when scratched along cutting edges or imperfections. The corrosion slowly expands into fine outgrowths, which occasionally cover an ex tensive area.

Special fibers, such as polarization-maintaining singlemode fibers, are predestined for use in complex, self-contained setups, increasing laser safety by reducing the laser safety classification. Most importantly, a sensitive and delicate measurement system can still enjoy the benefits of a laser beam, with the desirable features of polarization state and coherence, but be physically separated from the laser source. The measurement setup and the laser source are decoupled mechanically and thermally in order to avoid any mutual negative impacts.

Dem Wurmfraß auf der Spur

Peter Gips; Ulrich Oechsner
