a gratifying pace but earlier writers have been ignored. The recent monographs on the Kerala writers, edited by Aiyappa Panikker, are to be welcomed in this context. Among Tamilnadu writers that deserve an evaluation is A. Madhaviah, author of a novel, Thillai Govindan ( 1908) and two volumes of short stories, Kusika’s Short Stories ( 1924).
