Convergence of iterative sequences for fixed points of an infinite family of nonexpansive mappings based on a hybrid steepest descent methods

Nawitcha Onjai-uea; Chaichana Jaiboon; Poom Kumam; Usa Humphries

The propose of this article is to consider the strong convergence of an iterative sequences for finding a common element of the set of fixed points of an infinite family of nonexpansive mappings, the set of solutions of the variational inequalities for inverse strongly monotone mappings, and the set of solutions of system of equilibrium problems in Hilbert spaces by using a hybrid steepest descent methods. Our results improve and generalize many known corresponding results.AMS (2000) Subject Classification: 46C05; 47H09; 47H10.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF WIND-WAVES GENERATED BY TROPICAL CYCLONES USING WAVE MODEL

Worachat Wannawong; Prungchan Wongwises; Prasertsak Ekphisutsuntorn; Chaiwat Ekkawatpanit; Usa Humphries

Numerical analysis of wind-waves generated by tropical cyclones using the WAve Model Cycle 4 (WAMC4) was studied. The WAMC4 model was enabled to study the impacts of surface waves generated by tropical cyclones under the open sea condition in the Gulf of Thailand (GoT). In this study, the WAMC4 model was used to calculate the severe storm waves under the forcing fields of tropical cyclone winds which were simulated by the available U.S. Navy Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) model. The WAMC4 model was also applied to calculate the impacts of storm waves in cases of Typhoon Linda (1997), Typhoon Muifa (2004) and Super Typhoon Durian (2006). The impacts of severe storm waves along the best tracks of those typhoons were considered from the model results and also the data obtained from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). The results of the WAMC4 model indicated that the severe storm wave generated by Typhoon Linda is the only one affecting Thailand, while Typhoon Muifa and Durian weakened when they approached the GoT resulting in decreasing the wave heights and their intensities. *

Low-Level Wind Variability over the Indochina Peninsular during Boreal Winter

Sirapong Sooktawee; Usa Humphries; Atsamon Limsakul; Prungchan Wongwises

Low-level wind can be used to represent winter monsoon as an index constructed from 850 hPa wind. The vector empirical orthogonal function (VEOF) method is used to decompose variability of the low-level wind from JRA-25 reanalysis data during the boreal winter (December to February) over the Indochina peninsular. The first VEOF mode exhibits tropical anomalous easterlies over the southern region and anomalous southeasterlies over the central of region. A spatial pattern in positive phase of the first mode exhibits anomalous northeasterlies, and the pattern of negative phase reveals anomalous southwesterlies over the interior of the region. The variability of winter monsoon over the Indochina peninsular shows interannual variation, and long term variability is of interest. The relationship of winter monsoon over the Indochina peninsular to the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM), which is a major climate feature during boreal winter, is investigated and discussed.

Strong Convergence Theorems of Modified Ishikawa Iterative Method for an Infinite Family of Strict Pseudocontractions in Banach Spaces

Phayap Katchang; Wiyada Kumam; Usa Humphries; Poom Kumam

We introduce a new modified Ishikawa iterative process and a new W-mapping for computing fixed points of an infinite family of strict pseudocontractions mapping in the framework of q-uniformly smooth Banach spaces. Then, we establish the strong convergence theorem of the proposed iterative scheme under some mild conditions. The results obtained in this paper extend and improve the recent results of Cai and Hu 2010, Dong et al. 2010, Katchang and Kumam 2011 and many others in the literature.
