Steam volatile constituents from leaves of Rhus typhina

Abstract The steam distillate from leaves of the Bucks horn, Rhus typhina, displayed insecticidal properties against aphids. GC and GC/MS analysis of the distillate resulted in the identification of more than 70 constituents, comprising among others terpenoids, hydrocarbons, aldehydes, fatty acids and m-substituted long chain alkylphenols.

The essential oil ofChrysanthemum balsamita L. revealed insecticidal properties when tested againstM. dirhodum aphids. The insecticidal activity was attributed to the presence of pyrethrine I in the oil. By an appropriate testing procedure, the dependence of the activity upon the time of harvesting of the plants was determined. Furthermore, the insecticidal effect of the oil was compared with that of a commercially available pyrethrum preparation.ZusammenfassungDas ätherische Öl des Balsamkrauts,C. balsamita, besitzt insektizide Wirkung gegenüber der Bleichen Getreideblattlaus,M. dirhodum, die auf den Gehalt von Pyrethrin I zurückgeführt werden kann. Mittels geeigneter Testverfahren wird die Abhängigkeit der Wirksamkeit vom Erntezeitpunkt der Pflanzen bestimmt und die insektizide Wirkung mit der eines handelsüblichen Pyrethrum-Präparats verglichen.

New Constituents of Essential Oil from Elsholtzia pilosa

By means of GC and GCMS 31 constituents of the essential oil of Elsholtzia pilosa have been identified, 1.8-cineol representing the main component (50%). The oil composition with respect to its major constituents has been compared with other Elsholtzia species.

Abstract From the leaves of Chrysanthemum balsamita L. an essential oil with insecticidal properties was isolated and the components were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. By means of TLC and HPLC the oil was divided into several fractions, which were examined for their insecticidal activity in a biotest. The activity could be contributed to pyrethrin I which was found for the first time in C. balsamita.

The essential oil from leaves of Chrysanthemum balsamita L. was analyzed by GC and GCMS techniques. About 30 components have been identified. The oil revealed insecticidal properties against aphids. Very little phytotoxicity was observed. The insecticidal activity could not be attributed to one of the single main substituents of the oil.
