This paper presents a five port converter with generation source, ultra capacitor, battery and asymmetric bipolar output for microgrid and hybrid electric vehicles applications. Proposed converter has two asymmetric bipolar outputs. This makes it suitable for interfacing with multilevel inverter in hybrid microgrid applications. On the basis of power sharing between ports, charged and discharged of the battery and ultra capacitor, three operating modes are defined. Proposed structure uses a three winding coupled inductor with high gain. Operation and analysis, simulation, and design consideration of the proposed structure is presented. To validate the simulation and theoretical analysis a laboratory prototype of 450 W by using DS1104 dSPACE is presented.

In this work a ballistic missile is tracked in the presence of clutter in the surveillance area. During the re-entry phase a ballistic missile can generate decoys and thus can transforms from one-many components to be tracked. These all components should need to be tracked by the tracking system as any of the component can be a true target containing the explosives. The presence of clutter in the area makes it much more difficult for the tracking system to efficiently create the track of the target. This work uses the joint integrated probabilistic data association (JIPDA) algorithm to handle the multi-target scenario during the re-entry phase. A number of simulations are performed to judge the performance of the JIPDA algorithm for the given scenario. The results of the algorithm shows that all the target components are tracked in an optimal way in the presence of clutter using the JIPDA algorithm.

Multilevel inverter has numerous features for high and medium voltage applications. The size and complexity of multilevel inverter topologies limits its applications. In this paper performance comparison of seven and five levels inverter is presented. For both inverters cascaded H-bridge and reduced switched topologies are used. Performance of the inverters is compared topological and by reduction in total harmonics distortion (THD) using the sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) control techniques. These techniques are phase disposition (PD), phase opposition disposition (POD), alternate phase opposition disposition (APOD), phase shift (PS) and hybrid PWM. Models are implemented in Matlab Simulink environment and results are compared. In reduced switch topologies increasing the output voltage level by minimizing the number of switching devices produce significant reduction in total harmonic distortion. Thus the conventional topology can be replaced with proposed reduced switched structure with the benefit of reducing losses, size and cost.

This paper presents the design of monitoring and control interface for a 230V power house using Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA). This model provides a real time environment for the user related to the automation in a substation with respect to the accuracy and reliability in its control and monitoring. The presented model allows the comparison of the efficiency of proposed system with the existing systems. The proposed design is built under the framework of SCADA and PLC.

The Induction Motor (IM) control in industrial drives is widely acknowledged for robustness and low maintenance. The vector control technique is mostly used for the speed control of IM. The hybrid control e.g. Fuzzy with classic PI control provide adequate response with load variations of motor. Speed control is a challenging task as IM is characterized by its nonlinear dynamics. In case of complex systems, the traditional control theory fails. To address the aforesaid problem, artificial intelligence (AI) based control systems are proposed. Moreover Fuzzy control is one of such options to provide an alternative to past conventional control methodology for dealing with complex systems. This paper presents the Fuzzy Proportional Integral (FPI) control scheme designed for speed the control of IM.

Recently, large number of object detection and recognition algorithms are playing a key role in several applications, such as security and surveillance. Although, these algorithms perform exceptionally well under normal lighting conditions, however their detection and recognition accuracy abruptly degrades under non-uniform illuminations, such as strong sunlight and bad lighting conditions. In this paper, we apply our own developed Multi-Scale Retinex (MSR) algorithm as a pre-processing module to boost the accuracy of the AdaBoost algorithm, which is considered to be state-of-the-art algorithm for robust object detection and recognition. Simulation results show that the MSR can be reliably and effectively used under non-uniform illuminations to boost the accuracy of the AdaBoost.
