The thermal behavior and thermodynamic properties of europium tris(hexafluoroacetylacetonate) Eu(hfa)3 and the mixed-ligand 4-cyanopyridine-N-oxide complex [Eu(hfa)3(cpo)] were investigated by thermal analysis and Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry. The compounds sublime congruently. The composition of the gas phase over the compounds and the partial pressures of the components were determined. The enthalpies of sublimation, polymerization, and dissociation of these compounds were derived from experimental data.

In this paper we discuss a promising method for the fabrication of magnetoplasmonic crystals (MPC) based on the combined ion-beam etching technique. We show that this method allows producing high-quality planar 1D MPC structures consisting of a gold grating formed on top of a garnet-based magnetic dielectric layer. We demonstrate that resonant features of the MPC, which are determined by surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) and waveguide (WG) mode excitations, can be controlled by a proper choice of the MPC period and the stripe width. Transmission spectra of the MPCs were measured in a wide angular and wavelength range, revealing the excitation of SPP and WG modes of the orders up to m = ±3. The anomalous transmission is observed at normal incidence in the spectral region where Au/garnet SPPs are excited. High values of the linear magneto-optical intensity effect are observed in transmission through the MPC. The effect is odd with respect to the direction of the SPP propagation at the Au/garnet interface and vanishes at the edges of the Brillouin zones, where counter propagating plasmons degenerate into standing waves.

Arrangement of water clusters in the structure of potassium ethylviologen hexacyanometallate hydrates is discussed. An icelike fragment of 12 water molecules corresponding to the cell of hexagonal Ih ice is isolated in the structures.

Pr1 + xBa2 – xCu3O6 + z substitutional solid solutions prepared by solid-state reactions in air, using the appropriate metal nitrates as starting reagents, were studied by x-ray diffraction, microstructural analysis, and thermogravimetry (TG). The oxygen content of the synthesized materials was determined by iodometric titration. The TG data obtained at different heating rates were used to evaluate the apparent activation energy Ea for oxygen exchange between the solid and gas phases. The results indicate that the Ea for Pr1.4Ba1.6Cu3O6 + z is much higher than those for the materials withx= 0, 0.25, and 0.6. The anomaly in Ea correlates with the variations in some other physicochemical properties of the solid solutions.
