Low-energy ηd-resonance

Abstract: Elastic ηd-scattering is considered within the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (AGS) formalism for various ηN input data. A three-body resonant state is found close to the ηd threshold. This resonance is sustained for different choices of the two-body ηN-scattering length aηN. The position of the resonance moves towards the ηd threshold when ReaηN is increased, and turns into a quasi-bound state at ReaηN∼ 0.7-0.8 fm depending on the choice of ImaηN.

Search for nuclear reactions in water molecules

Abstract The possibility of molecular-nuclear transitions to occur was recently predicted for some few-atomic systems. Among others, the molecule of ordinary water was shown to be a candidate for this effect due to a presence of (1 − , 4.522xa0MeV)-resonance in the 18 Ne nucleus. The search for traces of nuclear reactions was carried out for condensed and vaporous phases of water, with the use of low-background annihilation spectrometry. The measurements were carried out under conventional conditions and under conditions of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory.

Binding of charmonium with two- and three-body nuclei

Abstract The energies of the η c – d and η c –3He bound states are calculated by using genuine three- and four-body scattering equations. For the NN interaction the separable version of the Paris potential is used. For the η c N interaction we adopted a local Yukawa-type potential which is expanded into a series of separable potentials by means of the unitary pole approximation method. The results are compared with earlier calculations.

Fusion reactions in molecules via nuclear threshold resonances

It is widely accepted that in molecular systems the nuclear interaction plays a negligible role, because of the strong Coulomb repulsion of the nuclei at small distances. We are going to show that this is not always true. The existence of an extended nuclear resonance may lead to considerably enhanced nuclear reaction rates in appropriately prepared molecules. Especially we point out that p+p+ ^{16}O, i.e., the constituents of water, can form a ^{18}Ne(1^-) threshold resonance which decays under energy release into ^{17}F and a proton.It is widely accepted that in molecular systems the nuclear interaction plays a negligible role, because of the strong Coulomb repulsion of the nuclei at small distances. Consequence of total lepton number violation in strongly magnetized iron white dwarfs

Abstract The influence of a neutrinoless electron to positron conversion on a cooling of strongly magnetized iron white dwarfs is studied. It is shown that they can be good candidates for soft gamma-ray repeaters and anomalous X-ray pulsars.

Interaction of η-Meson with Light Nuclei

A microscopic treatment of η-nucleus scattering is presented. When applying the underlying exact integral equations, excitations of the target are neglected, and an input ηN amplitude is chosen which reproduces the S11(1535) resonance. It is shown that the η-nucleus scattering lengths are quite sensitive to the ηN parameters and the nuclear wave functions. For a special choice of these parameters an η 4 He quasi-bound state occurs.

Perturbation of a lattice spectral band by a nearby resonance

A soluble model of weakly coupled “molecular” and “nuclear” Hamiltonians is studied in order to exhibit explicitly the mechanism leading to the enhancement of fusion probability in case of a narrow near-threshold nuclear resonance. We, further, consider molecular cells of this type being arranged in lattice structures. It is shown that if the real part of the narrow nuclear resonance lies within the molecular band generated by the intercellular interaction, an enhancement, proportional to the inverse width of the nuclear resonance, is to be expected.


Few-body Systems | 2008

New nuclear three-body clusters φNN

Binding energies of three-body systems of the type φ + 2N are estimated. Due to the strong attraction between φ-meson and nucleon, suggested in different approaches, bound states can appear in systems like φ + np (singlet and triplet), φ + nn and φ + pp. This indicates the principal possibility of the formation of new nuclear clusters.
