Review of sea snakes of the genus Hydrophis sensu stricto (Serpentes: Hydrophiidae)

The results of the genus Hydrophis revision s. str. are presented. The genus is divided into three subgenera, including Mediohydrophis subgen. nov. The validity of Hydrophis atriceps and H. (Microcephalophis) gracilis microcephalus is confirmed. New data on the distribution of H. klossi is given.

Redescription of a Russian finding of the erabu sea krait Pseudolaticauda semifasciata (Reinwardt in Schlegel, 1837), with remarks about species composition of sea snakes (Serpentes: Laticaudidae, Hydrophiidae) in Russian and Adjacent Waters

Redescription of a single Russian finding of the erabu seakrait Pseudolaticauda semifasciata is provided and all findings of sea snakes in Russian territory are listed. A key for the identification of sea snakes of the Sea of Japan is provided.

On the Taxonomic Position of the Sea Snake Hydrophis caerulescens (Shaw, 1802) (Serpentes: Hydrophiidae)

Validation is provided for the establishment of the genus Polyodontognathus for the sea snake Hydrophis caerulescens. The polytypy of this species is demonstrated. The description of the species is improved, and new information is presented about its distribution and osteology.

New records of a rare species of spariform fish Acanthopagrus schlegelii (Bleeker, 1854) (Osteichthyes: Sparidae) from Russian waters of the sea of Japan, with notes on the taxonomy of the genus Acanthopagrus Peters, 1855

A rare species of the spariform fish Acanthopagrus schlegelii from Russian waters is described. The synonymy of this species and the related literature data are analyzed. It is suggested that two species occur in Russian waters that differ in body coloration: A. schlegelii and A. czerskii.

On first reliable record of the sea snake Chitulia belcheri (Gray, 1849) from Australian waters, with notes on species composition and taxonomic status of the genus Chitulia (Serpentes, Hydrophiidae)

A description of the first reliable record of the rare sea snake Chitulia belcheri from Australian waters (Arafura Sea) is given. The species composition of the genus Chitulia and its taxonomic status in the genus group Hydrophis sensu lato (Leisoelasma, Chitulia, Polyodontognathus, and Hydrophis sensu stricto) are discussed. A revised key to the species of the genus Chitulia is provided.

An annotated checklist of sea snakes of Vietnam, with notes on a new record of the yellow-lipped sea krait, Laticauda colubrina (Schneider, 1799) (Laticaudidae, Hydrophiidae)

The yellow-lipped sea krait, Laticauda colubrina (Schneider, 1799), is recorded in the waters of Vietnam for the second time. The morphological characteristics of this species are described. Identification keys, a checklist, and distribution data for sea snakes of Vietnam are provided, proceeding from museum collections and extensive analysis of the available literature. Thalassophis anomalus P. Schmidt, 1852 and Leioselasma melanocephala (Gray, 1849) are registered for the first time for Vietnamese waters.

This paper presents a redescription of a rare sea snake Aipysurus tenuis Lönnberg et Andersson, 1913 (Serpentes: Hydrophiidae) from the waters of Australia (the Arafura Sea), which was known until now only from three syntypes.

This study reports the data on the taxonomic complexes within the genus Chitulia and their species composition. The subgenus Dolichodira is proposed.

Distribution of a little-known sea krait Pseudolaticauda schistorhynchus (Günther, 1874) (Serpentes: Laticaudidae)

A little-known sea krait Pseudolaticauda schistorhynchus from the northern waters of New Guinea Island (Bertrand Island) is described. We note the considerable remoteness of this record from the main species range and its closeness to the distribution area of the closely related species P. semifasciata, which some authors consider to be a northern subspecies widely distributed in the eastern Pacific. The examined specimen is undoubtedly P. schistorhynchus. The boundaries of the two species ranges and keys for the identification of species of the genus Pseudolaticauda Kharin, 1984 are given.
