The current status of research in the field of development and application of photocatalytic membrane reactors for water treatment from organic pollutants has been analyzed. The main types of these reactors and the construction techniques and properties of catalytically active membranes were discussed. The combination of photocatalysis and the membrane methods was shown to facilitate the effective removal of different organic substances from water. The factors affecting the water purification efficiency and the prospects of using the hybrid photocatalytic membrane reactors in water treatment processes were also specified.

Photodestruction and adsorption of dyes in aqueous suspensions of nanopowders of titanium dioxide of anatase modification was studied. The photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide nanopowders was examined in relation to the dispersity of particles and pH of the medium.

The article investigated the impact of the VMK-1 activated carbon, produced from apricot stones in their pyrolysis in the flow of water steam, on the transmembrane stream and the retention of capacity of the UPM-50 ultrafiltration membrane with respect to the cationic violet dye. It has been shown that the combination of adsorption and ultrafiltration with the process in one unit makes it possible to substantially raise the degree of water purification of the dye concurrently with an increase of the process capacity of purification and prolongation of the membrane service life.

Nanofiltration treatment of aqueous solutions to remove triazine herbicides (terbumetone, desmetrine, atrazine) with an OPMN-P membrane was studied. The effect of the molecular mass of herbicides, working pressure, and extent of permeate removal on the retention of solutes was analyzed.

We have investigated the impact of working pressure, the degree of sampling permeate, the pH of the medium on the transmembrane flow and retention capacity of a UPM-50 ultrafiltration membrane with respect to the dye acid yellow in the combination of the method of ultrafiltration and coagulation. It has been shown that the use of magnesium hydroxide for aggregation of anionic dyes makes it possible to substantially increase the efficiency of their membrane removal from the solution retaining high capacity of the ultrafiltration process.

The article has investigated the process of phenol destruction in water by photocatalytic oxidation catalyzed by cerium hydroperoxide (Ce(OH)3OOH). We have studied the impact of catalyst amount, oxidant (H2O2,O2), time of ultraviolet radiation on the activity of the given process. It is shown that the local concentration of dissolved O2 plays a decisive role in oxidizing destruction of phenol in water systems containing a heterogeneous catalyst. We have proposed a likely mechanism of phenol photodestruction in the presence of Ce(OH)3OOH.

The process of ultrafiltration treatment of aqueous solutions to remove humic acids has been studied under conditions of adding complexation polymers (polydiallyl dimethylammonium chloride, polyacrylamide, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and chitosan). It was shown that the highest values of the retention coefficient for humic acids were observed in case of using polydiallyl dimethylammonium chloride (R = 98.1%) and chitosan (R = 90.5%). The impact of the solution pH on the degree of removing humic acids was also investigated.

The paper has studied the processes of the biological fouling of UPM-67, UAM-500, and PAN-20 polymer membranes in filtration through them of an E.coli suspension. The paper gives quantitative indicators of the growth of microorganisms on the surface of the membranes depending on a composition of the water being treated. A correlation between membrane capacity and the amount of the E. coli cells that adhered to their surface was conducted.
