Aerooptic Effects in a Turbulent Flow and Their Simulation

K. N. Volkov; V. N. Emel’yanov

Large-scale eddies and related aerooptic effects in a turbulent boundary layer, free mixing layer, and a jet flowing out of a round nozzle into a submerged space are simulated. The results obtained are used to analyze the distortions produced in the phase function of a coherent light beam by the turbulent fluctuations of the parameters of the medium. The results of numerical calculation are compared with the data of natural experiment and data obtained by solving Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations.

Approximate method for calculating turbulent two-phase flow in a channel with permeable walls

K. N. Volkov; V. N. Emel’yanov

Based on a model of a double-velocity and two-temperature medium the authors constructed a system of equations that describes plane or axisymmetric turbulent flow of a gas suspension in a channel with permeable walls. The system of equations of motion and heat transfer reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations, whose integration is much less difficult than solution of the initial system. The authors obtained the distribution of the velocity and local characteristics of turbulence in the channel with injection with allowance for the inverse effect of a condensed phase.

Aero-optic effects in turbulent flows

K. N. Volkov; V. N. Emel’yanov

Large-scale vortices and related aero-optic effects in a turbulent boundary layer, a free mixing layer, and an underwater stream have been mathematically simulated. The results are used for the analysis of distortions in the wavefront-phase function of a coherent light beam, which are induced by turbulent fluctuations in the parameters of the medium. The results of numerical calculations are compared to the experimental data and to a solution of the Reynolds equations.
