Abstract Isolates of cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) obtained from three greenhouses in Ukraine have been identified. The rabbit antisera have been generated for these isolates. These antisera can be used for diagnostics of CGMMV in plant material by indirect ELISA. Analysis of cDNA sequences of capsid protein of these viruses confirmed that they may be grouped into novel strain of CGMMV.

This paper presents the results of 3 year‐long monitoring of crop fields in four ecologically different areas of Ukraine for several phytoviral infections. Various modifications of ELISA were used as main assay to evaluate the spreading of a virus. The technique allowing to determine the frequency of occurrence for a virus of interest is proposed. This technique is based on an identification of viral antigens in crops, accompanying weeds and soil. The differences between the investigated regions on a virus occurrence frequency as well as dynamics of the parameter in relation to crop‐rotation have been revealed. The possibility to use results obtained for predicting phytoviral disease spreading is discussed.

Bacillus‐like viruses were revealed in plants of sugar beet (300 × 42 ran), winter wheat (245–350 × 40–70 nm), black currant (250–285 × 65–85), raspberry (460–490 × 70–90) in the Ukraine. The viruses’ morphology and their intracellular localization was studied with electron microscopy.

This paper describes detection of some potyvirus infecting vegetable crops in Ukraine. Collected samples were screened for the presence of Zucchini yellow mosaic virus and Watermelon mosaic virus-2. Obtained isolates of Zucchini yellow mosaic virus were clustered with isolates from Slovenia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria and France within subgroup AI. According to the topology of Neighbor-Joining tree based on sequences of NIb-CP genome region obtained WMV-2 isolates showed that belong to group G1. Viruses infecting cucurbits in Ukraine presented by phylogenetic groups widespread in Europe.
