Fluorescence of semiconductor nanorods in liquid-crystal composites

V. V. Danilov; M. V. Artem’ev; A. V. Baranov; G. M. Ermolaeva; N. A. Utkina; A. I. Khrebtov

The fluorescence of CdSe/ZnS nanorods in liquid-crystal and anisotropic polymer composites is studied. A high degree of the fluorescence anisotropy is shown. It is found that a solubilizer strongly affects the CdSe/ZnS orientation, which opens new possibilities for creating electrically controlled liquid-crystal composites.

Optical limiters based on liquid-crystal microlenses

M. V. Gryaznova; V. V. Danilov; M. A. Belyaeva; P. A. Shakhverdov; O. V. Chistyakova; A. I. Khrebtov

The possibility of using liquid-crystal microlenses for solving the problems of optical limiting is demonstrated. A compact optical system based on these microlenses is suggested and studied; in this system, two-photon absorption in extrinsic nematic liquid crystals is used as a limiting mechanism.

Anti-stokes excitation of luminescence of dyes by high-power radiation

V. V. Danilov; Yu. T. Mazurenko; S.I. Vorontsova

Abstract The luminescence of several dyes under laser excitation near the maximum of their emission spectra is studied. The processes of quenching and depolarization of luminescence by light and of two-photon absorption are observed.

Photoinduced electron transfer involving radical ions in multicomponent solutions

M. V. Gryaznova; V. V. Danilov; T. A. Shakhverdov

A phenomenological study of a specific radical ion mechanism of formation of metastable products is presented. Energy level diagrams of fullerene C60, tetramethylbenzidine, perylene, and radical ion pairs in toluene and benzonitrile are constructed. The possibility for obtaining fast optical switching and limiting in solutions of C60 fullerene, tetramethylbenzidine, and perylene in toluene is analyzed.

Efficiency of the use of two-photon absorption in impurity liquid crystals as a mechanism of optical limitation

V. V. Danilov; E. N. Sosnov; O. V. Chistyakova; T. A. Shakhverdov; T. Brunier

An analysis is made of the advantages of impurity liquid-crystal systems that are associated with the existence of the excitonic mechanism of electronic excitation energy transfer in them. Using the two-photon absorption in such systems, one can substantially expand the dynamic range of optical limitation.

Nonlinear optical limiting based on energy and charge transfer in fullerene-containing media

I. M. Belousova; V. V. Danilov; D. A. Videnichev; N. G. Gogoleva; G. M. Ermolaeva; I. M. Kislyakov; M. V. Gryaznova; H. Buersing; D. Walter; B. Eberle; R. Ebert

The optical limiting efficiency and the possibility of extending the spectral and time ranges of optical limiters based on fullerene-containing media are studied. The optical limiting of pulses of different durations in solutions of C60 and higher fullerenes, the triplet—triplet transfer in multicomponent fullerene-containing solutions, and the electron transfer in the C60-tetramethylbenzidine-perylene system are investigated.

Nanophotoreactors based on organized liquid media

V. V. Danilov

This paper discusses the possibility of creating photoactive systems based on organized liquid media. Such systems can be fairly widely used, for example, in molecular photonics devices and in information technologies for enhancing photoswitching processes. Examples of such systems based on multilayer carbon nanostructures and fullerene-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes are considered.

New nanoheterostructures based on astralenes: Spectral characteristics and some application aspects

M. A. Belyaeva; M. V. Gryaznova; V. V. Danilov; O. V. Khapova; A. N. Ponomarev; G. M. Ermolaeva; T. A. Shakhverdov

Original compositions in the form of suspensions of astralenes with luminescing solubilizers in various solvents, including liquid crystals (LCs), are developed. Using an LC composition as an example, the possibility of extending the dynamic range of optical limiting due to the joint action of two-photon absorption in the LC matrix and stimulated scattering by carbon nanoparticles is demonstrated. The spectral and luminescent characteristics of such suspensions are determined. The role played by the photochemical factor in the photodynamics of optical limiting in carbon heteronanostructures is discussed.

Laser cooling of solutions of complex molecules

V. V. Danilov; V. A. Smirnov; V. B. Shilov

This paper theoretically discusses possible ways of increasing the efficiency of optical cooling accompanying anti-Stokes excitation of the fluorescence of solutions of complex molecules. It is concluded that it is promising for these purposes to use the

Determination of the spectral parameters of doped nematochiral composites for optical switching systems

M. V. Gryaznova; V. V. Danilov; V. A. Smirnov

A simple equation describing the optimum relation of the parameters of doped nematochiral cells for use in real systems of switching and limiting of laser radiation is obtained based on analytical estimates. The adequacy and feasibility of the derived relation is confirmed experimentally.
