Business Intelligence (BI) can assist in agricultural enterprises to strengthen their production potential and tech- nical effi ciency due to its eff ective support to the managerial, analytical, planning, and decision-making activities of man- agers and specialists. However, the state of the BI in the Czech Republic is not still completely understood. In this context, this paper aims at the evaluation of the current state of the art of the BI among small Czech farms. Th e focus of the re search was put on the evaluation of both the state of the BI, and the relevant business information systems and software for agri- culture. Th ere was a survey among 135 agricultural entrepreneurs from various regions in the Czech Republic. Th e survey results are presented by the descriptive statistics and frequency tables. Th ere is an examination of the relationship between the agricultural enterprise structure and the use of the BI. Dependencies among the examined characteristics were sought by the means of the analysis of qualitative variables. With 95% probability, it could be claimed that the type of production, the size of farmed land, the number of employees and the level of fi nancial subsidies have no signifi cant impact on using the BI, the expert and analytical systems in agricultural enterprises.

The multidimensional data models are most often used for decision support in Business Intelligence field. This paper presents innovative approach for support of knowledge analysis in precision agriculture, where such analytical approach offers great potential for the future. Corner stone of our approach is the creation of knowledge rules based on open data and information available from inside a particular agricultural company. In the next step such explicit knowledge is transformed into multidimensional database and an analytical model for decision support of the farm’s managers is designed. Our approach is demonstrated on example concerning knowledge analysis of one of the agricultural problems – infestation of farm plants by aphids.

The main purpose for the use of open data (further OD) is to provide content. From the definition of OD there are two important attributes of OD: – machine readable format and reuse without any legal restriction. The issue of the so called “Open data” has recently been intensely investigated and discussed in detail. However, OD benefit can only be realized if the data are true, so called correct. There are a plenty of models of OD and their metrics, the proposed model extends one of the quality attributes called correctness. In the proposed model it seems preferable to use this aggregated attribute rather than individual attributes of quality.

This contribution deals with the potential of the so called active knowledge database in conjunction with the agricultural resort. The authors of this contribution initially focus attention on the defining the term active databases, their possible roles and expectations associated with them. Agriculture of the Czech Republic certainly has some potential, which can initiate a qualitative change in the functioning of the entire agricultural sector. The authors also deal with the possibility of the creation of such databases and derive their principles from classical relational databases. The crucial matters of this examination will relational database technology (especially the issue of the database triggers) and the theory of measurement and evaluation of the quality of software products. Active database must be created only on the principles of relational database technology and on these principles must also work. The proposed principles of active databases are then verified through a functional prototype and then are generalized. On the basis of these conclusions are then specified the recommendations, which can significantly increase the benefits of this phenomenon.

Presented article deals with issue of data modelling for managerial decision making of entrepreneurs with regards to knowledge management principles. The core line of the approach is capturing of explicit knowledge relevant to given business activities into multidimensional databases that would become part of utilized ICT/IT. These issues are demonstrated on the agriculture domain where the need to computer storage of relevant knowledge and provide them on-demand is very up to date. Recently, it has become very necessary in frequently discussed agriculture technique called precision agriculture.
