New plasma diagnosis tables of hydrogen Stark broadening including ion dynamics

M. A. Gigosos; Valentín Cardeñoso

A set of tables of the Stark width of the first three lines of Lyman and Balmer series of hydrogen, useful for plasma diagnosis purposes, is presented in this work. These tables have been obtained by means of a fully recognized computer simulation technique. Computer experiments have been carried out for density values between and . Simulation temperatures range from 2245 K to 224 856 K. Ion dynamics effects are taken into account in a natural way and the most significative gas mixtures have been covered in the simulations, carried out at the reduced mass of the emitter - perturber pair , 0.6, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2.0. A detailed discussion of the influence of the relevant plasma parameters on the characteristics of the profiles is also included. The results show an excellent agreement with up-to-date experimental results and confirm these kind of profile calculation techniques as now the most accurate.

Corpus based extraction of quantitative prosodic parameters of stress groups in Spanish

David Escudero; Valentín Cardeñoso; Antonio Bonafonte

We introduce a new corpus-based technique to model the prosodic information contained in spoken utterances. Taking the stress groups and intonation group as the structural building blocks and Bezier parametric functions to approximate FO contours, we propose a statistical modeling of the relevant categories of stress groups. These models can be directly exploited in speech synthesis tasks in order to get more natural intonation patterns, specially for text reading applications. Suggestions are also made as for the utility of these statistical models in classification and recognition tasks.

A strategy to solve data scarcity problems in corpus based intonation modelling

Valentín Cardeñoso; David Escudero

Data scarcity in corpus-based intonation modelling for text-to-speech (TTS) applications is addressed. Multiple model dictionaries are proposed to predict patterns not found in the training corpus. A grouping strategy is proposed to improve models of classes without a high enough number of training samples. An experimental study of this strategy shows that better pitch profiles can be predicted in this way.

Stark-broadening simulation in hydrogen: study of the binary and complete binary collision hypotheses

M. A. Gigosos; Valentín Cardeñoso; F. Torres

The binary collision and complete binary collision approximations used in electronic Stark-broadening calculations have been analysed by means of a computer simulation technique for the Lyman alpha line in hydrogen. A simulation process has been developed in which three spectral profiles are simultaneously obtained, corresponding to the exact calculation and each of the two above approximations. Calculations have been performed under four different temperature and density conditions.

Study of the Stark broadening of the Paschen alpha line in hydrogen

Valentín Cardeñoso; M. A. Gigosos

Stark width tables of the Paschen alpha line in hydrogen plasmas are presented, as an aid for plasma diagnosis. The calculations have been carried out by means of a computer simulation technique using particles and within the usual framework of a - ion model. With this technique, an adequate treatment of the ion dynamics effects can be achieved. The calculations cover a range of electron densities between - and temperatures that go from 5000 to 40 000 K. Four values of the reduced mass of the emitter - perturber pair have been considered, and 2.0.

Multimodal interaction with virtual worlds XMMVR: eXtensible language for MultiModal interaction with virtual reality worlds

Hector Olmedo; David Escudero; Valentín Cardeñoso

Based on a philosophy of integrating components from multimodal interaction applications with 3D graphical environments, reusing already defined markup language for describing graphics, graphical and spoken interactions based on the interactive movie metaphor, a markup language for modeling scenes, behavior and interaction is sought. With the definition of this language, we hope to have a common framework for developing applications that allow multimodal interaction at 3D stages. Thus we have defined the basis of an architecture that allows us to integrate the components of such multimodal interaction applications in 3D virtual environments.

Ion dynamics effects in the Balmer gamma line: computer simulation calculations

M. A. Gigosos; Valentín Cardeñoso

The first study of ion dynamics effects in the Stark-broadened profile of the hydrogen Balmer gamma line using computer simulation techniques is presented. A systematic reduction of the structure in the line centre is reported, in agreement with the experimental observations.

High density effects on hydrogen stark profiles

Hydrogen lines of low principal quantum number have been recently measured for high densities and low temperatures. For such conditions, the use of a binary collision electronic impact operator is shown to overestimate the width of the line.
