Abstract Using the data on the cross sections π − +p → Σ +K and π − +p → Λ +K close to the threshold Σ+K the conclusion is drawn of the possible existence of a level with binding energy E = 30 MeV in the Σ−K system in a state T = 1 2 , which must lead to a resonance in the reaction π − +p → Λ +K below the threshold Σ+K. The possibility is discussed of the existence of such levels in Λ−K as well as some other systems and their connection with resonances close to the respective thresholds.
