A new combination and a new species in Phlegmariurus (Herter) Holub (Lycopodiaceae) from Southern Vietnam

ABSTRACT A new combination is proposed for Phlegmariurus (Herter) Holub (Lycopodiaceae): P. obovalifolius (Bonap.) V.T. Tran & N.V. Duy, comb. nov., and a new species of Phlegmariurus, P. lancifolius V.T. Tran & N.V. Duy, sp. nov., from southern Vietnam, is described and illustrated. It is distinguished from the closely related P. obovalifolius (Bonap.) V.T. Tran & N.V. Duy, comb. nov., by its leaves lanceolate, apex acuminate-acute, 1.1-1.5 × 0.4-0.6 cm, sporophyll cuneiform or broadly ovate, c. 2 × 2 mm, apex apiculate with acuminate tip, c. 2 mm, sporangia reniform.

Maclurochloa locbacensis (Poaceae), a New Species of Climbing Bamboo from Vietnam

A clambering bamboo from southern Vietnam is described as a new species, Maclurochloa locbacensis N.H. Nguyen & V.T. Tran (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) and illustrated in line drawings. It is similar to M. montana and M. tonkinensis, but differs by having deeply concave culm sheaths and flat stigmas.

In English, English and French abstracts. Annamocalamus H. N. Nguyen, N.-H. Xia & V. T. Tran (Poaceae-Bambusoideae), a new genus from Vietnam, is described and illustrated. It is based on the species Annamocalamus kontumensis H. N. Nguyen, N.-H. Xia & V. T. Tran. The new genus shares some morphological characters with Melocanna Trin. and Stapletonia Dash & al. but can be recognized by its shorter rhizome and the occurrence of pseudospikelets.

Ferrocalamus fibrillosus (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), a New Species from Vietnam

Ferrocalamus fibrillosus H.N. Nguyen & V.T. Tran sp. nova (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) is described and illustrated from Vietnam. It is similar to F. strictus and F. rimosivaginus but differs by the culm sheaths having erect and ca. 0.4–0.3 cm long auricles, and setae ca. 0.4 cm long. There are 10 or 12 white cylindrical fibrils inside the internodes and connecting two diaphragms.

Nianhochloa gen. nov. (Poaceae, Bambusoideae), a new bamboo genus endemic to Bidoup Mountain, southern Vietnam

ABSTRACT A clambering bamboo endemic to Bidoup Mountain, southern Vietnam, represents a new monotypic endemic genus, Nianhochloa H.N.Nguyen & V.T.Tran, gen. nov. (Gramineae, Bambusoideae), which is described and illustrated. Nianhochloa, gen. nov. is distinguished from Kinabaluchloa K.M.Wong and Bambusa subg. Lingnania Chia & Fung by morphological synapomorphies: clambering culm habit and short rachilla internodes. Other diagnostic characters include a branch complement derived from single bud at a culm node developing into 3–4 subequal branches, these subequalling the main culm internode; short culm internodes; culm leaf blades erect; and lodicules protruding and glabrous.

Schizostachyum nghianum (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), a new species from Vietnam

A new species of Bamboo from Vietnam is described and illustrated. Schizostachyum nghianum is recognized from northern Vietnam, where it occurs at 300 m in Trung Ha Commune, Chiem Hoa District, Tuyen Quang Province. It is distinguished from the closely related S. funghomii and S. pseudolima by sheath apex truncate, bract one, lemma with apical mucro c. 1 mm, the palea apex entire (not bifid) and the filaments.

Gigantochloa multifloscula sp. nov. (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), A New Species from Vietnam

ABSTRACT Gigantochloa multifloscula H.N.Nguyen, N.Xia & V.T.Tran, sp. nov. is described and illustrated as a new plant species that was previously treated as Gigantochloa sp. Pham, but unnamed. Based on its vegetative, inflorescence, and basic spikelets structures, Gigantochloa multifloscula sp. nov. shares characters with most other Gigantochloa species but differs in the position of florets in pseudospikelet and branches. Investigating essentially these aspects for G. multifloscula sp. nov., we found many additional characters for this genus, which indeed has mid-culm branch complement with no dominant branch, culm wall thin and florets falling together.
