Bjc Brigitte Claessens; van W Wendelien Eerde; Cg Christel Rutte; Robert A. Roe

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to provide an overview for those interested in the current state‐of‐the‐art in time management research.Design/methodology/approach – This review includes 32 empirical studies on time management conducted between 1982 and 2004.Findings – The review demonstrates that time management behaviours relate positively to perceived control of time, job satisfaction, and health, and negatively to stress. The relationship with work and academic performance is not clear. Time management training seems to enhance time management skills, but this does not automatically transfer to better performance.Research limitations/implications – The reviewed research displays several limitations. First, time management has been defined and operationalised in a variety of ways. Some instruments were not reliable or valid, which could account for unstable findings. The mediating role of training utility in the relationship between training needs assessment and organizational effectiveness

van W Wendelien Eerde; Kcs Ker Choon Simon Tang; G Talbot

In a survey among respondents from 96 organizations, we found that the utility of training partially mediated the relationship between Training Needs Assessment (TNA) comprehensiveness and the effectiveness of the organization. We did not find an effect of training quantity on training utility and organization effectiveness. Both TNA comprehensiveness and training quantity were found to be unrelated to organizational size. The results support the importance of conducting TNA in practice.

Jmp Josette Gevers; van W Wendelien Eerde; Robert A. Roe

Time pressure is become increasingly evident in new product development (NPD) teams. However, there remains gaps in understanding the relationships between time pressure, team processes and performance. This study focuses on how time pressure affects communication in teams, and the possible strategies to manage time pressure. A framework was developed through literature review and verified using a case study. The results showed that communication is strongly affected by time pressure and team played an important role in managing time pressure.
