Education in hospitals is still a new subject in academic terms, and not many studies have been carried out in this area. With the goal of adding to the debate, this paper presents possibilities of interrelation between education and health, through an analysis of images of a pedagogic approach to patients in hospitals. Drawing on Wallon and Vygotskys studies, the article presents an analysis of interaction between four children and a discussion on the different roles that can be played by education within hospitals. Learning as an element to trigger development acquires new elements when it happens within a childrens ward in a hospital. Not only does it bring back childrens self-esteem; it also brings knowledge that helps children think about their illnesses and understand the reasons why these illnesses bring them emotional unease, thus reducing the level of tension commonly experienced in hospitals and providing them with moments of thought construction, expression and restructuring. This is how education has been playing an important role in the recovery of hospitalized childrens health.

This article was built out of theoretical and practical reflections done at Nucleo de Estudos da Infância: Pesquisa & Extensao(NEI:P&E). The Nucleo of Childhood Studies: Research & Extension is part of the Research Group Childhood, Youth and Educationfrom PROPED/UERJ. By tradition our studies cover issues linked with Human Development (children, their families, teachers andhelpers). Our theoretical perspective is socio-historical and cultural, based on the work developed by Lev Vygotsky and Henri Wallon. The research is done on three municipalities: Rio de Janeiro, Juiz de Fora e Niteroi. The Educational Policy of Early Education, from2009 to 2013, is the focus of the studies. The tensions existented between the text of the policies and everyday practices, in additionto its historical and cultural implications is which guides and distinguishes the approaches in each municipality.

The article discusses the right to education of infants in the context of the city of Rio de Janeiro and as a period of analysis, the years of 2009 to 2016, double management of the same mayor. The number of vacancies in municipal public education is investigated, focusing on enrollment in the nursery, in particular after the construction of new educational equipment (GIL, 2018). The citizenship of infants and the social recognition of the right to daycare for all children, regardless of vulnerability criteria, is the starting point for all analyses. The results point out that in relation to the right to the education of babies, even with the new building facilities, specific to child education, the number of enrollment in the nursery have being reduced every year, although there is growth in the other groups. It adds to this the reduction of full-time daycares.
