A forward-looking library use survey: WSU libraries in the 21st century

Abstract In a large-scale user survey, respondents rated current services, print materials, and electronic resources, and prioritized those services and resources in terms of importance to their work. Respondents also ranked services and resources that might be offered. User profiles were developed for faculty, graduate assistant, and undergraduate student users.

Saving the Elusive Past for the Future: A Case Study in Collaboration of Veterinary Libraries

ABSTRACT This article presents a collaborative project undertaken by a group of veterinary librarians as an attempt to deal with the problematic nature of grey literature. It provides the historical context of grey literature in veterinary medicine, noting its importance in preserving the history of the veterinary profession in the United States. It also surveys veterinary grey literature and discusses the challenges of dealing with this type of material. Emphasizing the common problems presented to the veterinary library community, the paper then reports on the cooperative efforts of the group, describing the development of a mission, core values, and an action plan.

History of the International Conference of Animal Health Information Specialists (ICAHIS) and its partnership in One Health

This article chronicles the International Conference of Animal Health Information Specialists’ (ICAHIS) beginning in 1992 to the present and describes other groups and conferences formed from the international animal health information conference idea. Throughout its history, ICAHIS has been a forum for colleagues worldwide to discuss, share, and promote animal health information access. This article is a brief history of ICAHISs origins and the movement it fostered. The 7th ICAHIS, the first in the United States, will occur in Boston, May 3–8, 2013. Previous conferences were held on three continents: Europe, Africa, and Australia.

Impacting Librarianship and Veterinary Medicine: History of the Veterinary Medical Libraries Section of the Medical Library Association from 1974 to 2014

This article discusses the Veterinary Medical Libraries Section (VMLS) of the Medical Library Association (MLA), its impacts on both librarianship and veterinary medicine during its 40-year history, how it achieved those impacts, relationships, selected projects, and organizational changes through the years. A listing of publications about veterinary librarianship and VMLS products is available on the VMLS website (Veterinary Medical Libraries Section, 2014).
