In this work the evaluation of a filter press type Reactor (REOV-01) with Ti electrode was realized, applied in the silver recovery from industrial wastes. Macroelectrolisis studies were performed at different flow velocities with empirical and dimensionless correlations and parameters. The results of the variation of the concentration of Ag at different flow linear velocities allowed the determination of the mass transfer coefficients of silver (order of 10exp-5) for Ti electrode, which are consistent with the literature. Chronopotentiometric studies showed that the Ti electrode performed better for the recovery of silver because to a current of -150 mA during 210 minutes was achieved 99.8% of silver recovery. The current efficiency values above 100% indicated that the electrochemical process is coupled to an electroless process. The results showed low energy consumption and high space-time yield values indicating that the REOV-01 presents an excellent performance in the recovery of silver.

In this work the evaluation of a filter press type electrochemical reactor (REOV-01) with stainless steel (A304) electrode was realized, applied in the silver recovery from radiographic films. Macroelectrolisis studies were performed at different flow velocities with empirical and dimensionless correlations, and parameters such as: current efficiency, energy consumption Es and space-time yield. The results of the variation of the concentration of Ag at different flow linear velocities allowed the determination of the mass transfer coefficients of silver (obtained about the order of 10exp-5) for A304 SS electrode, which are consistent with the literature. The current efficiency values above 100% indicated that the electrochemical process is coupled to an electroless process. The results showed low energy consumption Es and high space-time yield values indicating that the reactor REOV-01 presents an excellent performance in the recovery of silver from radiographic films.

A three dimensions mathematical modeling was developed with COMSOL 3.2 software of an electroremediation cell. The Navier Stokes and Darcy equations were used to model the behavior of the electrolyte and the sand, respectively. The mass balance for hydrogen ion was carried out with Nernst-Planck equation for the anode and soil regions. The main factors that contribute to the hydrogen ion balance were the diffusive flux and electric migration. The mathematical modeling was validated with an experimental arrangement consisted in an electroremediation cell which contains sand as porous medium and water as electrolyte. A potential of 20 V was applied for 24 hours and the pH was measured continuously. The results of the model are in good agreement with those obtained experimentally.
