Young people face a real and increasing difficulty in finding a decent job with each day. Three additional combining factors are worsening the youth employment crisis even further, causing challenges while transiting to decent jobs. Namely (i) numbers of discouraged young people, who are neither in education nor employment or training (NEETs) are increasing. In tertiary education, (ii) unemployment among university graduates, in general, are rising. Therefore, (iii) potential NEET group students, especially in the 1st year, who, apart from reduced study fees, require extra motivation and moral support from educators. The aim of the paper is to find out how to solve the dropout crisis applying digital opportunities for 1st-year universities students’ by an educational support and motivation enhancement. Educational institutions should combine the traditional forms of study and e-learning. However, direct contact between the teacher and the student plays very important role in acquiring a quality education, and should not be left out.

Concepts of e-Learning Accessibility Improvement - Codes of New Media Art and User Behavior Study.

Ieva Gintere; Viktors Zagorskis; Atis Kapenieks

This article examines our proposed innovative strategies to further improve e-learning and new eBig3 learning approaches using an e-Ecosystem that is based on a multi-screen concept to support e-learning. Here we present the data comparison of user behavior in well-known Moodle and EdX learning environments. We propose the New Media art code analysis as an experimental method for eContent evaluation, and present the design science research method as a tool for application of e-learning research results. This paper is a part of a cross-cutting research in the fields of digital / new media art and ICT product innovation. The research is aimed at finding a path to open up the cache of knowledge situated in the theory of modern art, and to incorporate the codes of modern art into the field of ICT. The goal of the research is to transfer knowledge of modern art into areas traditionally not related to contemporary art and its specific academic trends, as well as to encourage the intersection of these disciplines. Consequently, this research aims to create a new profile of products that would exemplify modern interdisciplinary and analytic thought.

Using the probabilistic model checker PRISM to analyze H-OTBA algorithm in Optical Burst Switching (OBS) networks

Viktors Zagorskis

Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is perceived as the most affirmative switching method for the next generation optical networks to satisfy bandwidth demands for applications in telecommunication domain. This paper review OBS model on the network evaluates a hybrid offset time and burst assembly scheme to repeat results described by other authors. The proposed scheme called hybrid offset-time and burst assembly algorithm (H-OTBA) was evaluated via verification using PRISM modeler language. Constant bit rate (CBR) traffic issue that has strict end-to-end delay QoS requirements is used in this study. The objective of the paper is achieved by comparing maximum burst transfer delay parameters of CBR solved by PRISM modeler with attained reference results.
