The electronic and informatics age - a new stage in developing highly effective ships

Perfection of ships in fleets all over the world is directly connected with development and introduction of the ship electronics and informatics. The authors make an attempt to answer to most actual questions arising by development of the ships computerized systems. How to find the optimal balance between the man and machine? For what conditions is it rational to replace man by machine? Rational consequences of automation stages are explained in the paper, beginning from the automated control of some ship equipment with a watch in a compartment and further to the future full automation and robotization of ship control. The wide range of accompanying problems have been analyzed. The correct and timely solution should be accompanied by development and introduction of the advanced electronic and informatics equipment into the marine technology

The trends in integrated control and monitoring systems for ships

The last two quarters of the XX century has been marked by the achievements in automation of the marine technique and in control of operations for which this technique has been created. These achievements have confirmed their efficiency and viability. The further progress in this sphere is evident. On-board ship, the integrated control and monitoring systems (ICMS) would undertake and manage all activities associated with the administration of the vessel, including stores and provisions management, work requests, logs, equipment tag outs and calling up and display of diagnostics, drawings and work procedures for engineering repair teams. Because of the growing amount of data and the evolving technology, the operators have to deal with more and faster information streams. The decision-making processes becomes more complicated, the ICMS systems more extensive. Furthermore there is a growing demand for reduction of the number of crewmembers onboard. New technology and new ICMS functions handles these issues. The next paragraphs describe the authors view regarding the trends in ICMS systems

Availability improvement of ship's optical communication network

The paper presents the heuristic approach to availability analysis of optical communication networks connecting ships systems. The availabilities of individual components have been calculated, as the basis for the entire system availability evaluation. Several network availability structures and protection scenarios are presented and the availability evaluated. Based on the analysis, the possibility for improving ships communication system availability has been proposed, contributing to the overall availability improvement of ships systems.

Information System Supported by RFID Technology in the Process of Sale and Control of the Tickets in Ship's Passenger Traffic

U ovom radu predložen je podsustav za prodaju i kontrolu putnickih karata u brodskom putnickom prometu. Spomenuti podsustav temeljen je na uporabi RFID tehnologije. Podsustav se može jednostavno integrirati u postojeci integrirani informacijski sustav brodske putnicke kompanije ili u integrirani lucki informacijski sustav. Kao prometne karte koriste se pasivni RFID tagovi koji se mogu kupiti u bilo kojoj ovlastenoj agenciji za prodaju brodskih karata. Kontrola karata vrsi se automatski, jednostavnim unosenjem kartice u polje RFID citaca. Kontrola karte traje veoma kratko i omogucava brzi protok putnika i automobila, a to znaci i manje gužve u lukama i vezovima. Srž predloženog podsustava je softverska aplikacija koja povezuje sve komponente RFID tehnologije i distribuirana baza podataka. Primjenom RFID tehnologije ubrzava se proces ukrcaja putnika/auta, smanjuju se gužve u luci, eliminira ukrcaj putnika u pogresnu brodsku liniju te se znacajno smanjuje upotreba gotovinskog placanja.
