New CoIII-alkyl complexes of the type [Co(C10H14N8)(L)(R)] have anomalous n.m.r. spectra which have been ascribed to paramagnetic contact shifts arising from a thermally populated triplet state.

Several monocarbon monoxide complexes of iron(II) with a macrocyclic ligand have been prepared, and a crystal structure of one of these complexes shows that the Fe–CO angle is linear, 178°, with an Fe–C distance of 1·75 A and an unusually long axial Fe–N distance of 2·12 A.

Metal complexes of the ligand, butane-2,3-dione dihydrazone, react with formaldehyde to yield simple octa-aza-macrocyclic ligand complexes dihydro-octa-aza-annulene complexes, and clathrochelates of a quadricyclic ligand.
