Influence of irrigation and genotype on the nut production of precocious dwarf cashew Abstract - The influence of irrigation and genotype on the nut yield of tree dwarf cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) was evaluated in a three-year trial. Three clones (CP 09, CP 76 and CP 1001) and four irrigation treatments (control - without irrigation, irrigation at one, three and five days interval) were studied. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with split-split plots and four replications, irrigation levels in plots, clones in split-plot, each one with four plants, and years of production in split- split plots. The amount of water applied in three irrigated treatments was based on information from a class A evaporation pan. Concerning cashew nut production, cashew dwarf clones did not show a differentiation as to irrigation treatments; clones CP 09 and CP 76 showed better performance than CP 1001 on stability of nut production; clone CP 76, independently of irrigation treatments used, showed less productivity than clones CP 09 and CP 1001.

Qualidade de cajus-de-mesa obtidos nos sistemas de produção integrada e convencional

The cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.) is a plant of great importance for the Brazilian Northeast Region, due to the diversity of products generated for the fruit and peduncle and the amount of generated jobs. Despite this, there is no standardization in the cropping systems presently used, with negative consequences in the yield and quality of the raw material for consumption and for industry. The conversion of traditional orchards to the integrated fruit production systems will contribute to minimize this scenery. The objective of this work was to compare the integrated fruit production (IFP) and conventional cropping production (CP) systems in dwarf cashew orchard, as to apple quality. The experiment was installed in a commercial orchard, located in Beberibe Country, State of Ceara, Brazil, in an area of 1.0 hectare, where the IFP and CP systems had been developed. Each system had occupied 0.5 hectare, separated by five crop lines of plants. In the IFP system, cropping practices were applied according to the Legal Marks of Integrated Fruit Production in Brazil. In CP system, cropping practices were applied accordingly with common used by local growers. Apple color, firmness, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), vitamin C content and pH were evaluated. For these variables, means were estimated from twelve samples obtained in both treatments, which were compared by test t (P<0.05). For the TA and vitamin C content variable, the IFP system was significantly superior to the CP ones. For the pH variable, a significant difference was observed between the averages of the systems, being the value gotten in the CP superior to the one of the IFP. The cashew apples obtained in the IFP system showed better quality. The post-harvest quality of the cashew apples had been influenced by the production systems.

Influência da irrigação na produção de pedúnculo e de castanha em clones de cajueiro-anão-precoce

Vitor Hugo de Oliveira

The goals of this work were to evaluate the influence of the irrigation on the cashew apple production and the ratio of apple: nut weights in dwarf cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.). Three clones were evaluated (CP 09, CP 76 and CP 1001), under four irrigation levels (A: control - without irrigation; B: irrigation with 1 day interval; C: with 3 days interval, and D: with 5 days interval). The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with split-split plots and four replicates, with irrigation levels in plots and clones in splited-plots, each one with four plants. The amount of water used was based on information from class A evaporation pan. The results led to the following conclusions: the response of dwarf cashew to the irrigation is dependent of genotype; CP 76 presents the biggest ratio of apple: nut weights, what elects in the clone more suitable for production of apples for in natura consumption; clone CP 1001 is more adapted for dry ground conditions.

A study was conducted, from April to June 1995, in the area of irrigation and drainage department of the Federal University of Ceara, in Fortaleza (Brazil), in order to evaluate the effects of increasing dosages of organic matter on the macronutrient uptake by seedling of CCP-76 dwarf cashew clone. A medium texture acid red-yellow soil was used for the experiment. Soil was collected from the top layer (0 to 30cm) from the coastal region of Ceara state. Treatments were as follow: five applications of organic matter (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 cm3 of coprolite/2.5kg of soil) and four evaluation periods (15, 30, 45 and 65 days after germination). The experimental design was completely randomized in a split-plot with 4 replicates and 6 plants per plot. In the plots were evaluated the effects of organic matter increasing dosages, while the periods were assessed in the split-plot. Samples of plants (stem + leaves) underwent a nitric perchloric digestion and extracts were adjusted for N, K, Ca, Mg and S. Increasing organic matter dosages showed a positive linear effect for N and K, reaching the maximum value for the dosage of 400cm3 of coprolite/2.5kg of soil. As far the effects of evaluation periods were concerned, results revealed a negative linear effect. As for Ca, Mg and S they showed a stable trend during the evaluation periods.

This study aimed to (a) to evaluate the biomass production from the crown of the young dwarf cashew, clone CCP 76, at 2, 3, 8 and 9 years of culture implantation, (b) to determine the rate of leaf decomposition and (c) to quantify nutrient contribution potentially available in the biomass to be recycled into the soil. The research was conducted at the Experimental Field of Curu, in Paraipaba - CE, from December, 2003 to January, 2005. The treatments consisted of orchards with trees of 2, 3, 8 and 9 years of plantation, distributed in a completely randomized design with eight replications. Litter was collected using 1 m2 collectors with 1 mm2 mesh place 40 cm above the soil surface. After sampling, the material was sorted out into portions of leaves, branches, inflorescence, peduncle and nut, oven dried and weighed. In the leaf portion, the compositions of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Na, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn were determined. Leaves ready to fall were collected from each plant to determine their decomposition rate and 12 g of this material was stove dried, and placed in 20 cm x 20 cm nylon bags and 2 mm mesh which were distributed on the soil surface and collected after 112, 233 and 369 days. In each collection, the material was oven dried and the remaining nutrient biomass (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Na, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) was determined. The 8- and 9- year- old plants deposited greater quantities of litter during the experimental period and showed greater potential for nutrient recycling. During the experimental period it was generally observed that the decomposition process was fast in the first four months, remaining slow until the end of the observation period. Most of the nutrients in the cashew tree were released in the first four months of leaf composition.
