The transverse and longitudinal resolution of image UP-conversion is considered. Experimental data concerning image UP-conversion and holography from 1.06 μm to 0.53 μm are presented. Experimental values of resolution are in good agreement with theoretical estimates.

The influence of the infra-red spectrum bandwidth on the transverse resolution of an image up-converter is investigated. It is shown that by suitable placing of the infra-red image plane, the deterioration of the resolution due to the infra-red spectrum bandwidth does not occur.

The conversion is considered of infra-red radiation into visible in a proustite crystal with the pump and signal waves perpendicular to each other. The angular and spectral parameters as well as the efficiency of such interactions are determined. The advantages of this interaction are discussed.

An investigation was made of the influence of two-photon absorption and inverse Raman scattering on the characteristics of parametric mixing under two-photon resonance conditions. Broadening of the spectral profile and saturation of the conversion efficiency were observed when the intensities of the interacting waves were increased. Good agreement was obtained between experimental and theoretical dependences calculated allowing for two-photon absorption and inverse Raman scattering.

The Bragg diffraction of λ = 10.6 μ radiation by longitudinal acoustic waves was observed in proustite. The angular characteristics of the radiation entering and leaving the proustite crystal were determined. The number of independent resolvable elements at the exit from the crystal was 20. The ratio of the intensity of the diffracted radiation to the intensity of the incident beam was 310–3.
